The war between AJPW & NJPW began to heat up in the early 1980s. Popular foreign talent like Stan Hansen, Abdullah the Butcher, and Tiger Jeet Singh had already jumped ship from NJPW to AJPW, joining the likes of the Sheik and the Funks, among other stars.
It was also in 1982 when Terry Funk, an AJPW megastar by this time, invited up-and-comer Hulk Hogan to jump from NJPW to AJPW, where Hogan would have joined one of the most stacked rosters in wrestling history.
