Ian Carey from F4W Online had a report today about an interview that Tony Khan did with Sal Licata from WFAN which contained a few nuggets of information about what might be coming from their relationship with Warner Brothers Discovery. He was on there to promote AEW Grand Slam which is on Wednesday at Arther Ashe Stadium.
Last Friday, my We're Live, Pal co-host Andrew Zarian was on Mat Men, which he hosts with Rich Stambolian. He said that AEW will be on Max, probably in January 2025 with pay-per-views. He said they would be non-exclusive, meaning you could still order them elsewhere. He also said that they will simulcast their current television on Max. But he said he didn't know if that would happen as soon as he expected pay-per-views to be available on Max.
On the show with Licata, Khan said that AEW will be doing a variety of things with Max and mentioned his weekly shows that are exclusive to cable being on the table, which is pretty much what Zarian said.
In his September 2 Screentime newsletter, Bloomberg's Lucas Shaw wrote about something coming down the line for how Max when it comes to their sports.
Later this month, Warner Bros. Discovery is hoping to start charging customers of its Max streaming service an extra $10 a month if they want to watch sports like the National Basketball Association and Major League Baseball.
This is all speculation on my part, but if they create a sports tier that is an extra $10 per month, that would make the lowest entry for Max's sports tier $19.99. Without ads, the lowest you could pay for a subscription with the sports tier add-on would be $26.99.
Could AEW's pay-per-views be available on the sports tier with the add-on?
Khan mentioned in the interview with Licata that buying pay-per-views on Bleacher Report would soon be no more, but you could still buy them in other places.
