In her seventh year of professional wrestling, 30-year-old Giulia said goodbye to the Japanese Marigold mat and set off for the world via WWE NXT.
Giulia made her debut with Ice Ribbon but moved to Stardom in October 2019, which was when Ice Ribbon announced to the public that she was actually still under contract. This caused a scandal, and it’s fair to say she lost face among peers and fans.
At the time, Giulia was making outspoken statements to the management that other wrestlers would not ever say, so Giulia's departure from the group and her move to the world was possibly a fait accompli.
Soon after that, her popularity took off with Stardom, where she would win the World of Stardom Championship. Her awareness of the organization and the female wrestling world as a whole was strong, which allowed her to quickly become a central player. Her charisma began to blossom, too.
This year, Giulia became one of the founding members of the new group, Rossy Ogawa’s Marigold, but since the latter part of her Stardom stint, there have been rumors of Giulia moving to WWE—again, fait accompli.
Marigold launched in May and has launched itself to the forefront of women’s professional wrestling not just in Japan, but in the world, and Giulia was a big reason this was able to scale at the rapid pace it did.
So, then, what of Marigold’s future? With the departure of their ace, Marigold is now looking ahead, and there are high hopes for the birth of a "young star" from the abundance of newcomers, with superstars like Sareee and veterans like Nanae Takahashi holding down the proverbial fort.
But Giulia’s goals seem like they aim to benefit both Marigold’s stage and the world of women’s wrestling in the end, since according to Giulia, she has made it her goal to make Japanese women's wrestling bigger in the future.
“I want the Marigold wrestlers to not waste a single minute and second and go for it. You don't get a chance like this! I'm going to finish my fight in Japan and go for the world.”
After years of experience with Ice Ribbon, Stardom, and Marigold, Giulia says she felt that Japanese women's wrestling had great potential, and that's why she was not satisfied with the current situation at all, so she has decided to make her presence bigger in order to reform women's wrestling herself. To achieve this, she made it her mission to achieve results on the “world's biggest stage.”
Several Japanese female wrestlers have challenged themselves to compete on bigger stages overseas, but so far, Giulia is the first to have such a clear vision of the future of Japanese women's wrestling, which is rather Giulia-like in essence, some would say; she’s not afraid to be honest, to put it mildly.
Will Giulia live up to the world's expectations as she gets into the rhythm at NXT? The anticipation is palpable, in both fans and from Giulia herself.
“I hope I can convey that there is a world like this! I can only experience anxiety and excitement at this moment. I think I will hit a wall in my career from now, but that’s also life, so. It's interesting, isn't it?! No matter what happens, I will have a “never give up" spirit. I want to continue to convey to you how I live my life while challenging various things, and I will go on a rampage in the world with the feelings of my loved ones, friends, and all of you who support me, so look forward to it!”
