The Young Bucks beating Will Ospreay and Kyle Fletcher is match of the week

The Young Bucks beating Will Ospreay and Kyle Fletcher is match of the week

My personal match of the week for the period of September 23-29 took place Wednesday at AEW's Grand Slam Dynamite. It was one of the best tag team matches of the year and featured the AEW World tag team champions The Young Bucks defending against Kyle Fletcher and Will Ospreay, who won the Tag Team Casino Gauntlet match two weeks ago to earn the shot.

In terms of strict two on two tag team matches, I don't have any matches rated above it. I gave it the same rating (out of 5 stars) as I gave to FTR vs Jon Moxley/Claudio Castagnoli (February 21) and the 6-team ladder match for both the WWE and World tag team titles at WrestleMania. If not for the finish, which involved distraction and a foreign object leading to the Young Bucks' win I may have gone higher and given it 5*. I'm sure that many watching did but little things like that are important to me.

My entire list of matches watched in 2024 can be found here.

Over the past week, I watched a total of 69 matches and I'll rank the top 10 below. That included matches from WWE RAW, NXT, OVW Rise, GCW Bad One (taped September 14), AEW Dynamite, TNA Impact, ROH on Honor Club, WWE Smackdown, AEW Rampage, AEW Collision and NJPW's Destruction in Kobe.

The top match, as stated earlier, was the Tag Title match from Dynamite. Cagematch had it rated at 8.46/10 while Dave Meltzer gave it the same 4.75* score that I had.

The rest of the top 10, including Cagematch and Meltzer star ratings are as follows:

2. 4.5* Jey Uso winning the Intercontinental title from Bron Breakker on WWE RAW on Sept 23. Cagematch 7.93/10. Meltzer 4.5*

3. 4.25* Carmelo Hayes beating Andrade to even their series at 3-3 on Smackdown on Sept 27. Cagematch 7.91/10

4. 4.25* Shingo Takagi winning the Never Openweight title from Henare at NJPW's Destruction in Kobe on Sept 29. Cagematch 7.06/10

5. 4.25* David Finlay retaining his NJPW Global title vs Yoshi-Hashi from Destruction in Kobe. Cagematch 8.35/10

6. 4.25* Tetsuya Naito retaining his IWGP Heavyweight title vs Great O'Khan from Destruction in Kobe. Cagematch 6.10/10

7. 4* Hologram beating The Beast Mortos and Dralistico in a 3 way Lucha match from AEW Collision on Sept 28. Cagematch 7.53/10

8. 4* Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu beating Kevin Owens and Randy Orton from Smackdown. Cagematch 6.25/10

9. 3.75* Bryan Danielson beating Nigel McGuinness in a non-title match at AEW Dynamite. Cagematch 8.08/10. Meltzer 4*

10. 3.75* Bayley beating Naomi in a #1 contender's match from Smackdown. Cagematch 6.66/10

Honorable mention (both matches also rated 3.75* from me)

New Day vs American Made from RAW. 6.71/10 on Cagematch

Kazuchika Okada vs Sammy Guevara from Collision. 5.64/10 on Cagematch
