AEW All-Star trios match tops the week | Match of the Week

As anyone who follows me on X (@PaulAceFontaine) would know, every week I release a list of the top 10 matches I've personally watched over the course of those seven days. I also track all matches watched in a given year and have done so since the start of 2022. I'm currently approaching 3000 matches this year and will usually watch anywhere between 80 and 100 in a given week.

For the week of September 16-22, the main event of the September 18 episode of AEW Dynamite topped my list at 4 and 1/2 stars. In that match, AEW tag champs The Young Bucks teamed up with Continental champion Kazuchika Okada to take on AEW International champion Will Ospreay teaming with Callis Family stablemates Kyle Fletcher and Konosuke Takeshita. It was a preview for this coming week's Grand Slam Dynamite where the Bucks defend their titles against Ospreay and Fletcher. Okada has also been challenged by Takeshita for his belt and that match will presumably happen soon.

The match received 4 and 3/4 stars from Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter and an 8.3/10 rating from users of Cagematch, which would translate to about 4 and 3/5 stars since their scale has no upper limit. It was an incredible match that really focused on Fletcher as he is someone the company has been trying to elevate in 2024 and the match on Wednesday will be the biggest of his career. He actually scored the pin in an impressive finishing sequence to cast some doubt as to the finish of Wednesday's title match.

In addition to Dynamite, I also watched over the course of the week: WWE RAW, WWE Main Event, WWE NXT, NXT Lvl Up, OVW Rise, ROH on Honor Club, TNA Impact, AEW Rampage, AEW Collision and WOW. There were "only" 52 matches this week with a shorter than usual ROH show as well as no New Japan shows and no pay-per-views or Premium Live Events.

The rest of my top 10 were as follows with the Meltzer rating (when given) and Cagematch rating listed afterward:

2. LA Knight vs Andrade US title match from the September 20th Smackdown | 4 and 1/4 stars (7.18/10 on Cagematch)

3. Hook/Outrunners/FTR vs Grizzled Young Vets/Mortos/Rush/Roderick Strong from the September 21st AEW Collision | 4 and 1/4 stars (6.16/10 on Cagematch)

4. Bianca Belair vs IYO SKY from the September 20th WWE RAW | 4 stars (4 and 1/4 from Meltzer and 8.14/10 on Cagematch)

5. Orange Cassidy vs Chris Jericho from the September 18 Dynamite | 4 stars (3 and 3/4 from Meltzer, 6.14/10 on Cagematch)

6. JDC vs Mike Santana from the September 19 TNA Impact | 4 stars (6.95/10 on Cagematch)

7. Mark Briscoe vs Bryan Keith from the September 20 AEW Rampage | 4 stars (5.9/10 on Cagematch)

8. Sammy Guevara/Dustin Rhodes ROH Tag title Bunkhouse Match AEW Collision | 4 stars (7.8/10 on Cagematch)

9. Kevin Owens/Street Profits vs The Bloodline from Smackdown | 3 and 3/4 stars (6.02/10 on Cagematch)

10. Sheamus vs Pete Dunn from RAW | 3 and 1/2 stars (6.75/10 on Cagematch)
