UFC 294 Live Coverage

Muin Gafurov Vs. Said Nurmagomedov

Nurmagomedov immediately put Gafurov in a guillotine choke and Gafurov tapped. Nurmagomedov even let it go before the referee saw the tap. Impressive.

Winner: Said Nurmagomedov by way of 1st round submission

Warlley Alves Vs. Ikram Aliskerov

Alves landed a nice leg kick early, but it was pretty much all for naught. Aliskerov landed a jab that almost put Alves down and then he followed up with a brutal jumping knee and landed some punches up against the cage and Alves went out.

Winner: Ikram Aliskerov by way of 1st round KO

Johnny Walker Vs. Magomed Ankalaev

Ankalaev had Walker near the cage and Walker had a knee down. Ankalaev kneed him while he was down and the fight was paused.

The doctor came into the ring and performed a “concussion test” and called the fight off. Walker didn’t realize the fight was over and tried to press the action while officials were in the ring.

The fight was declared a no contest.

Kamaru Usman Vs. Khamzat Chimaev

Chimaev got a takedown very early on which is only the second time in 18 fights that Usman has been taken down. Chimaev got on his back and also got the hooks in. Usman didn’t go flat and was on his knees. Usman got to his feet and Chimaev was carrying him like a backpack. Usman dove down head first and Chimaev was still on his back. Every bit of that round went to Chimaev. Usman survived.

Round two was mostly on the feet and Usman actually landed the harder punches. Chimaev finally shot in with less than a minute left and got the takedown but didn’t do anything with it. Usman may have won that round after getting dominated in round one.

Usman kept it on the feet for the first two and half minutes and was winning the striking battle. Chimaev got a takedown in the second half of the round and laid on top of him like a weighted blanket for almost the rest of the round. Usman got out with 30 seconds left and it ended with a lot of swinging.

Winner: Khamzat Chimaev by way of majority decision

The scores were 29-27, 29-27 and 28-28.

Alexander Volkanovski Vs. Islam Makhachev

After a slow start, it ended with an explosion. Makhachev threw a head kick that initially looked like it would’ve been at least partially blocked, but it wasn’t and Volkanovski was in major trouble. He hit him with hammer fists that Volkanovski couldn’t defend and the referee stopped it.

Winner: Islam Makhachev by way of 1st round knockout
