I was lucky enough to join Keila Cash and Scott Young on the latest edition of the WRAP. We had a great time discussing all things WWE as the company builds toward the Elimination Chamber show:

How we got here

Men’s Elimination Chamber Match

WWE announced Jan. 31 that Bobby Lashley would defend his WWE title in the Elimination Chamber match. Lashley and his manager, MVP, were rightfully angry, since the odds are stacked against the champion in such a match. Brock Lesnar confronted Lashley on RAW that night, saying he wanted a rematch with Lashley so his WrestleMania match with Roman Reigns would be title-for-title. MVP talked Lashley out of accepting the rematch, but General Manager Adam Pearce announced Lesnar would be in the Chamber match with Lashley.

Later in the show, Seth Rollins appeared on the KO Show segment with Kevin Owens. Rollins said he was in the Chamber match as well because he beat Reigns at the Royal Rumble by disqualification. Owens had a qualifying match with Austin Theory scheduled, and he asked Rollins to threaten to pull out of the Chamber match unless Owens was put in directly. Rollins managed to hem and haw long enough for Theory to come out and start the match.

Theory won that match, putting him in the Chamber match and leaving Owens out.

Later in the night, Riddle faced Otis in an impromptu match after Gable had beaten Riddle in a scooter race (don’t ask). Pearce came out as the match began and said this would be a qualifying match as well. One wonders what the plan was to fill the last spot had Riddle not challenged Otis to a match suddenly, but it’s WWE, so logic doesn’t apply. Riddle defeated Otis to get a spot in the Chamber.

The final qualifying match of the night saw AJ Styles beat Rey Mysterio to be the sixth and thus far final entrant.

Women’s Elimination Chamber Match

This match was announced on the Feb. 7 episode of RAW. There was no particular angle, just an announcement of five of the women in the match to determine the challenger for the RAW title. On the Feb. 14 episode of RAW, Alexa Bliss was announced as the final participant after audiences suffered through her therapy skits.

Belair also won a gauntlet match on Feb. 14. The stipulation of that match means her pod will be the last to open.

Becky Lynch vs. Lita

Lynch and Rousey had a confrontation on RAW after Rousey said she wasn’t sure which champion she’ll be picking to face at WrestleMania. After Lynch and Rousey had a verbal spat that ended with Rousey giving Lynch a judo throw and almost clamping on armbar, Rousey said she’d make her announcement on the Feb. 4 SmackDown. She’s expected to name Charlotte as her opponent.

After this, Lita came out and said she wanted to face Lynch at Elimination Chamber. Lynch accepted the challenge.

Roman Reigns vs. Goldberg

Goldberg frequently returns for these Saudi shows. The people within the Saudi government that work with WWE on this multi-million dollar deal to run these shows like having legends on the show and they see Goldberg as a big star. Goldberg simply came to the ring on the Feb. 4 SmackDown and said he acknowledged Reigns…as his next victim. That was it. Apparently, Reigns had no choice and the match is on. They didn’t both with a story for this one.

Ronda Rousey and Naomi vs. Charlotte Flair and Sonya Deville

The company has molded together two programs for this tag team match. Rousey picked Flair for her WrestleMania title shot as the company holds off on the Rousey-Lynch rematch for now. Flair ended up part of the ongoing Naomi-Deville saga this past week on SmackDown. Deville, for reasons known only to herself thus far, has been trying to sabotage Naomi’s career for months to mixed results. After pushing a bit too hard, Naomi won a title match with Flair.

Flair won a very good match, but Deville taunted Naomi after the title match loss. That prompted Naomi to attack Deville. Flair then assisted Deville and a beatdown ensued until Rousey came out to make the save so she could get a piece of Flair. That led to this match being signed for Elimination Chamber.

Usos vs. Viking Raiders

The Viking Raiders have been portrayed as chumps for the most part lately, but on the January 21 episode of SmackDown, the defeated the Lotharios to earn a title shot. That match was announced, and Erik promptly lost a singles match to Jimmy Uso on the Feb. 4th edition of SmackDown, so if they are trying to build the Raiders into legitimate-looking contenders, there is a lot of work to be done.

Drew McIntyre vs. Madcap Moss

McIntyre has been tangling with Moss and Happy Corbin since December, when the duo stole McIntyre’s beloved sword. McIntyre defeated Moss at the Day 1 event on Jan 1. Corbin seemed to be next for him, but McIntyre had a neck injury to deal with, so they did an injury angle with Corbin and Moss after that match.

At the Royal Rumble, McIntyre returned to action and set his sights back on Moss and Corbin, playing off the injury angle. Corbin and Moss tried to sneak-attack McIntyre on the Feb. 4 SmackDown, but Moss ended up eating a Claymore kick. This match was also announced for Elimination Chamber as they hold off the match between Corbin and McIntyre for later. On the Feb. 11 edition of SmackDown, it was announced the match would be a Falls Count Anywhere match.

Rey Mysterio vs. The Miz

These two have been interfering in each other’s matches for weeks. Miz faked a trip that got Ray thrown out, then the Mysterios returned the favor the following week. After another confrontation on RAW on Feb. 14, the match was announced for Elimination Chamber.
