2021 Boxing Awards – Who’s Next?

2021 boxing awards who's next

We’re doing the Fight Game Media Awards a little differently this year. We’re breaking up the awards into multiple posts. Our boxing writers Carlos Toro and Robert Silva are the panel for boxing. They also host the Pound 4 Pound podcast on the Fight Game Media Network.

Here’s our second award of 2021:

Who’s Next

Carlos Toro: Jared Anderson
Perhaps it may be too soon to put Anderson on this pedestal (he may just be perfect for this award next year), but the last ten months or so have shown why Anderson may just be the next great American heavyweight. Standing at an impressive 6’4″ and around 240-250 lbs., Anderson has taken out his opposition with relative ease, going a perfect four-for-four in fights ending with a KO/TKO year. Anderson has an impressive boxing acumen mixed with underrated athleticism that allows him to immediately pressure opponents and overwhelm them with his sheer power without being too reckless in the ring. His in-ring ability is matched by his natural charisma that could turn him into a box office attraction and a potential world title contender within the next 18 months. In just eleven pro fights, Anderson, who’s also sparred with Tyson Fury, proved he is ready for veterans and top 30 heavyweights right now and Top Rank would be smart to fast track him into main event and co-main event slots on big shows in the future.

Robert Silva: Xander Zayas
This teenage Puerto Rican sensation is the most dynamic Puerto Rican fighter since a young Felix Trinidad. The sky’s the limit for this young prodigy. I predict that he will be the first Puerto Rican fighter to dominate the middleweight division for several years to come. As much as a can’t miss as Shakur Stevenson or Boots Ennis.
