ONE FC held its second Full Blast event that featured four fights, a mix of MMA, Muay Thai, and kickboxing on a single card.
The opening contest featured Japan’s “Silent Sniper” Taiki Naito taking on China’s “Metal Storm” Wang Wenfeng in a flyweight kickboxing match. Naito tortured Wenfeng with low kicks throughout this, and Wang’s left leg and inner thigh had turned purple by the time it was over. Naito won this one via unanimous decision and looked like a star, but the accidental low blows he threw may have hurt him a bit.
The second fight of the night saw an MMA with China’s Ma Jia Wen against South Korea’s Yoon Chang Min. Yoon’s impressive ground work earned him a super-fast submission victory.
Next saw Amarsannaa Tsogookhuu from Mongolia against Ben Wilhelm from the US. Tsogookhuu was unbeaten going in. For being a stand and bang affair, this was the most exciting fight of the night. Each fighter looked good, but Tsogookhuu looked stronger. He won by unanimous decision.
The main event saw Mongkolpetch Petchyindee Academy from Thailand face off against Algeria’s Elias Mahmoudi in a three-round catchweight Muay Thai bout. The two engaged in a slugfest before Mongkolpetch landed a hard outside leg kick early on. Mongkolpetch attacked the leg and closed the first round out strong with an elbow. They exchanged elbows and punches to start off before a clinch was broken up, then Mongkolpetch landed a few hard right hands against the cage.
Mongkolpetch later dropped Mahmoudi with a stellar combination and gained the first major advantage of the fight before a mid-cage clinch would slow the action down. Mahmoudi landed a downward elbow from the clinch at the beginning of round three. The two stayed tight against the cage until the final bell. In the end, Mongkolpetch won via unanimous decision.
Full Blast II was an enjoyable night of action. We didn’t witness any classics, but the final two fights were exciting, and the mix of Muay Thai, MMA and kickboxing matches continues to work for ONE.
