2/3/2021 AEW Dynamite
A special episode of Dynamite tonight is billed as Beach Break. With much of the country in the grip of winter, it seems like an odd time of year for a beach-themed show. The weather is even supposed to be chilly in Jacksonville. The show is nevertheless taking place near a coastline so there is a beach in the nearby area. So Beach Break it is.
Tying the Knot
A wedding between Kip Sabian and Penelope Ford is a long time in the making after being built up for weeks. The build has cooled off greatly in recent weeks, but the wedding remains a featured element of Beach Break.
A sub-plot related to the wedding is Miro and his butler, Chuck Taylor (or “Charles Taylor” as Miro dubbed him). Taylor’s time of service is coming to an end, but the feud with Miro might just be heating up after tonight.
Six-Man Tag Main Event
AEW World Champion Kenny Omega teams again with Impact Tag Team Champions The Good Brothers. They headline Dynamite in a bout against a trio comprised of Jon Moxley teaming with Fenix & PAC.

Omega, in recent weeks, has strengthened his bond with The Good Brothers (Karl Anderson & Doc Gallows), while Omega’s relationship with The Young Bucks continue to fracture. The cause of much of the friction recently is Don Callis. He maintains that the Bucks attacked him, but what really happened? The Young Bucks themselves have other things to worry about, namely the next challengers to their AEW Tag Team Championship.
Tag Team Battle Royal
The winners of a tag team battle royal tonight on Dynamite will determine the tag championship match at Revolution in March. The battle royal includes ten teams, essentially making it 20-man battle royal with team implications.
One catch is the reigning AEW World Tag Team Champions are in the match. If the Young Bucks win the battle royal, they will get to handpick their next challengers.
The ten teams include The Young Bucks, Top Flight, Private Party, Jurassic Express, and The Acclaimed. Likewise, three teams from Inner Circle are in the match. Those Inner Circle teams are Chris Jericho & MJF, Sammy Guevara & Jake Hager, and Santana & Ortiz. Rounding out the ten is two teams from Dark Order, which are Stu Grayson & Evil Uno and John Silver & Alex Reynolds.
The team of Silver & Reynolds replace FTR, who are out of the battle royal. Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler were taken out of the battle royal as part of disciplinary actions in storyline. FTR last week attacked Luchasauras, and they cut the horns off his mask. For that and the dastardly attack on Jurassic Express, FTR was punished.
Grudge Match
Thunder Rosa and Dr. Britt Baker have been at odds for some time. Each has attacked the other. Their feud now leads to a grudge match on Dynamite. Rebel will likely in some way play a role in this bout, so the odds could be against Thunder Rosa. One thing about Thunder Rosa since debuting in AEW, she will not back down from a challenge.
These two finally settle their differences in the ring, or do they? The feud could continue. There is a pay-per-view coming up after all.
Lumberjack Match
Another grudge plays out in a lumberjack match when Lance Archer meets Eddie Kingston. Nowhere to run in a ring surrounded by “lumberjacks.” Kingston must face ‘The Murderhawk Monster” tonight on Dynamite.
Lonesome Cowboy Blues
Matt Hardy was able to talk Hangman Page into teaming with him this week on Dynamite in a late addition to the show. Page’s character in storyline is directionless. Hardy looks to lead the “Anxious Millennial Cowboy” onto the right trail, or at least the route Hardy thinks is best. They previously teamed together in the Stadium Stampede match.
Page seems somewhat reluctant to follow Hardy’s path, but he has few friends. We are also in a pandemic after all, and it gets lonesome sometimes. My advice to Page is learn some cowboy songs to sing. There are a lot that deal with loneliness. Might be better off doing that instead, because Hardy seems to have an ulterior motive.
AEW Dynamite airs tonight on TNT at 8pm ET.
2/3/2021 WWE NXT
You think you know him? Just when you might think you know him comes something unexpected. The black-and-gold brand gets “Rated R” tonight.
Edge live on NXT
After winning the Royal Rumble this past Sunday, Edge is going to NXT… sort of. Edge is not actually joining the roster, but he will make an appearance on NXT tonight. Usually superstars start on NXT and then move to the main roster, and they hope to become a legend like Edge. Tonight, the progression is different. A legend achieves a milestone win, and now he’s headed to NXT.
Wednesdays are still, after all, a competitive night of counter programming between the two wrestling companies. Edge has momentum coming off his Rumble win, so maybe he can attract more eyeballs to NXT.
He also gets to work with wife, Beth Phoenix. That connection is how he announced his upcoming appearance.
In Orlando to visit my wife. Then I had a thought, @WWENXT needs to get #RatedR

Cruiserweight Championship Match
Curt Stallion challenges Santos Escobar for the NXT Crusierweight Championship, which was originally advertised for last week. Stallion was supposedly attacked by El Legado del Fantasma, and Stallion was unable to wrestle in the scheduled match. Rescheduled for tonight, Escobar must now defend against Stallion. At least that is the idea. Could be another attack or some sort of shenanigans.
Although there was some character development on the previous episode, Stallion has mainly been a featured on 205 Live. A title match on cable televison would be arguably his biggest match yet in WWE.
Dusty Classic Rolls On
Two separate tournaments continue with the men’s and women’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. On the women’s side is an underdog team that advanced after an upset win on a previous episode. That team of Kacy Catanzaro & Kayden Carter must now face Dakota Kai & Raquel Gonzalez in a tournament match.
The men’s tag tournament has two matches scheduled for tonight. Adam Cole & Roderick Strong are repping Undisputed Era in the tourney, and they collide with Timothy Thatcher & Tommaso Ciampa. The other tournament match features a Latinx showdown. Lucha House Party (Gran Metalik & Lince Dorado) meets Legado Del Fantasma (Raul Mendoza & Joaquin Wilde) tonight on the black-and-gold brand.
WWE NXT airs tonight on USA Network at 8pm ET.
