Facts Only – The Guide To UFC 247

UFC 247

Paul Fontaine is back with all you need to know about UFC 247.

UFC 247 airs Saturday night on ESPN+ PPV from Houston, TX and features the return of perhaps the most successful mixed martial arts of all time. Jon Jones, the UFC light heavyweight champion, is basically undefeated by everyone but himself and faces top contender Dominick Reyes. Jones essentially ran through the all the top contenders, was off for a period of time, and returned to face a new lineup of younger fighters. Reyes is the next in line. A knockout artist who comes in undefeated with first round finishes in 4 of his 6 UFC fights and poses an interesting test for Jones.

Jones’ only loss came over a decade ago by disqualification at the hands of Matt Hamill but, amazingly enough, he has just 2 stoppage wins in the last 7 years. Of course he’s faced the top competition in the sport along the way but it’s still led some to believe that he’s vulnerable.

The co-main event is for the women’s flyweight title and has one of the most accomplished competitors in all of combat sports, Valentina Shevchenko, defending her belt against “Blonde Fighter” Kaitlyn Chookagian. She’s somewhat of a weak challenger but there’s not much out there for the champ, besides a 3rd fight with featherweight and bantamweight queen Amanda Nunes.

As for the rest of the main card, there’s not much. The biggest fight would be Swedish superstar Ilir Latifi moving up to heavyweight against former World title challenger Derrick Lewis. The biggest fight on the prelims may be a #1 contender fight with Andrea Lee taking on Lauren Murphy at 125.

Here’s a look at the complete card for Saturday night. Fighter rankings are from FightMatrix.com and fight odds from bestfightodds.com:
