Paul Fontaine gives you all the facts in his guide to UFC 246.

UFC has its first PPV offering of the year Saturday and, in all likelihood, it will be the biggest show of the year for the company, if not the sport. Former featherweight and lightweight champion Conor McGregor returns to the Octagon after nearly two years away, to face perennial contender Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone.

It’s the rare UFC PPV with no title and this show does not need it. In the ESPN+ era of PPV, the format for the big shows seems to be either loading up on title fights, with either 2 or 3 on a show, or to have a fight with two big names. This is obviously the latter.

The last similar show was at Madison Square Garden in November and saw Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz square off for the “BMF” title; a belt created for the marketing purposes of that show. Saturday night’s fight could almost be looked at as a number one contender fight for that belt, which could actually be the most valuable title in UFC.

Aside from the marquee main event, there are several other big names on the show. Former bantamweight champion Holly Holm meets up with Raquel Pennington, in what could be a title eliminator fight. Another former champion Anthony “Showtime” Pettis returns to the 155 pound division and has a real tough opponent in Diego Ferreira.

Former strawweight title challenger Claudia Gadelha faces Mexico’s Alexa Grasso in an important fight at 115. And rounding out the main card is a heavyweight fight featuring the ageless Alexei Oleinik and surging contender Maurice Greene.

Highlighting the prelims, which will air on ESPN, is a flyweight fight featuring the unbeaten Maycee Barber and former 2-time TUF competitor Roxanne Modafferi. Barber could join a short list of potential title contenders for Valentina Shevchenko with a win. Andre Fili, Drew Dober and Tim Elliot are the other familiar names in the prelims.

Here’s a look at the complete card in detail. Fight odds are from bestfightodds.com, as of posted odds on Tuesday Jan 13. Worldwide fighter rankings are courtesy of FightMatrix.com.
