John and GG wonder if Rob Gronkowski would be the crossover star that Smackdown needs.
On the heels of Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck retiring from the NFL before the new season even began, former New England Patriots tight end, Rob Gronkowski opened up about his retirement from the NFL.
I want to be clear to my fans. I needed to recover. I was not in a good place. Football was bringing me down, and I didn’t like it. I was losing that joy in life.
He also said that physically he could play right now, but mentally, he’s not ready to put on the pads again.
A couple of weeks ago, John and I had a “what if” conversation about Gronkowski joining the Smackdown brand. There would be synergy with the NFL on Fox since Smackdown will be on Fox soon.
Could Gronkowski be that crossover athlete that WWE is always looking for? While not as pioneering of an athlete as Ronda Rousey was, he’s young, famous, and has a great look.
Let’s not forget that he already helped Mojo Rawley at WrestleMania 33.
