Backlash Live Coverage – AJ Styles Vs Dean Ambrose

backlash live coverage

Check out our Backlash live coverage.

There doesn’t seem to be a lot of hype for this show. With it being week one of the NFL, I imagine many casual wrestling fans will forget that it’s even on tonight. It’s a one match show. I’ll sit through a couple hours of what is likely to be Smackdown Live quality wrestling to see AJ Styles wrestle in a WWE main event.

We’ll be back at the start of the show.

Becky Lynch Vs Natalya Vs Naomi Vs Alexa Bliss Vs Carmella Vs Nikki Bella

The match is elimination rules.

Becky and Naomi had a nice one on one sequence. But because of the rules, you can’t really get too many things going without interruptions. Alexa Bliss looks really good in the match so far, showing a lot of fire. Naomi did a springboard to the floor.

The first pinfall was on Bliss, so she’s out. Natalya had Bliss up and Naomi did a Buff Blockbuster on her for the fall.

Naomi ate Nikki’s big forearm, but Natalya tossed Naomi aside and put Naomi in the Sharpshooter for the second fall.

Nikki hit the TKO on Natalya for a quick pin. And Carmela quickly pinned Nikki. Then Becky made Carmella tap in the Disarmer. She’s the first Smackdown Women’s champion.

Winner: Becky Lynch

Josh Nason and Dave Meltzer reported earlier that Randy Orton was off the show. Backstage, Bray Wyatt was shown slamming Orton’s foot in a door.

The Usos Vs The Hype Bros

The Usos are out of their normal gear and are wearing black. One Uso is wearing a shirt and the other isn’t.

Ryder and Rawley were a bit over the top, but the match ws fine.

Ryder hit a Frankensteiner from the top rope for a two count. Rawley was out after being tossed into the barricade. They undercut Ryder’s leg and Jimmy threw a side kick at the knee. Then Jey put Ryder in a half crab to get him to tap out.

Winner: The Usos

Dolph Ziggler Vs The Miz

Ziggler came out to the ring, but Miz was in the back yelling at Daniel Bryan, asking for a raise. This show is so weird already.

The match started exactly like the CM Punk fight last night. Miz ran at Ziggler and Ziggler took him down and then turned it into a rear naked, but Miz grabbed the ropes.

This is the best Miz match in quite some time. It was dramatic and Miz had his working shoes on. He was the antithesis of what Bryan said he was; a coward.

Ziggler had a couple of nice hope spots and nearly had it won with a super kick. Miz worked on Ziggler’s leg to set up the figure four, which was a great spot.

Maryse sprayed what looked like hair spray into his eyes and Miz hit the Skull Crushing Finale for the pin.

Winner: The Miz

The announcer said that Randy Orton couldn’t compete and counted him out. Then he said he still had to compete. Kane came out.

Bray Wyatt Vs Kane

This match wasn’t half bad at all. It was hard hitting and Kane was working hard.

They were outside the ring and Bray had Kane on one of the announcer’s tables. He did a running senton and they broke the table.

Wyatt set up the Sister Abigail, but Kane turned it into a choke slam. Bray kicked out. There was a chair in the ring and Bray hit a choke slam on Kane on the chair. Randy Orton came into the ring, hit a RKO on Wyatt, and then Kane hit a choke slam for the win.

Why is Kane beating guys in 2016?

Winner: Kane

The Usos Vs Heath Slater and Rhyno

It looks like Slater has a fulltime job now. Heath Slater and Rhyno are the Smackdown tag champs.

Rhyno speared one of the Usos and Slater covered him for the win. The match was more about setting up the finish and the final moment with Slater celebrating the win.

Winner: Heath Slater and Rhyno

AJ Styles Vs Dean Ambrose

If they can end the show with a great match, this PPV will be a decent surprise.

Ambrose drives me nuts with some of the things he overdoes, but this was a really good match. They went toe-to-toe with everything in their arsenal. Styles tried to set up the Styles Clash, but Ambrose tossed him over.

Styles hit the 450 springboard for a great two count. Ambrose countered the Pele Kick with his second rope clothesline.

There was a ref bump late and Styles kicked Ambrose low to set up the Styles Clash for the pin. AJ is the new champ.

Winner: AJ Styles
