Golovkin Vs Lemieux Play By Play
Round 1
Golovkin led the opening round with a solid jab and followed up with two nice right hands. He also landed a nice left hook to the head. Lemieux started out slow, but landed a couple body shots late.
Round 2
This was a tremendous round for Golovkin. He landed over 50% of his punches and you could tell that Lemieux was starting to feel the punches, even the jabs. Lemieux needs to start on offense before this gets out of hand.
Round 3
Better round for Lemieux as he started throwing more power shots, but Golovkin was still landing his jab at will and frustrating Lemieux. He was throwing body shots and landed one uppercut off the jab.
Round 4
It’s quite amazing that Lemieux stayed upright. GGG hit him with a left hook that nearly put him down, followed up with big shots and buckled Lemieux’s knees, but didn’t go for the kill. Lemieux showed tremendous courage in the round, but it’s all GGG.
Round 5
Lemieux landed his best shot of the fight, which GGG shook off and then GGG went to work. GGG threw a shot to the body and dropped Lemieux to a knee. He also hit him while he was on a knee and then late after the bell.
Round 6
That was Lemieux’s best round as he landed a few shots, but GGG came back with harder ones. GGG’s defense seemed to be fairly lazy in the round, but he’s up quite a bit here.

Round 7
Lemieux is taking quite the beating, but he’s still fighting hard. The worry for me is that he takes one too many here. Golovkin landed a big right hand that looked like it could’ve been the end, but Lemieux stayed upright.
Round 8
The referee showed some empathy for Lemieux and stopped it after GGG got him in the corner and stayed relentless. He hit him with a body shot, Lemieux grimaced and looked at the ref, and it was stopped.
