It’s episode six of The Ultimate Fighter: American Top Team Vs Blackzilians.
(Apologies for taking so long to get this one up. Hope to get back to reviewing these on the night they are broadcasted soon.)
American Top Team is ecstatic after winning their first match and being able to have the next fight in their home gym.
For the Blackzilians, they went for the hungriest fighter to get back on track. They chose Jason Jackson who wanted it most. Glenn Robinson said that after losing, guys looked less hungry. Rashad Evans told a story about how when you get to the UFC, there may be times where you have to fight in shorter cycles and you have to do it because you want to move up the ladder.
ATT decides to go with Marcelo “Grilo” Alfaya over Nate Coy. Dana White thinks it should be a great fight. Lambert hopes that Grilo wins and thinks he may need him again for the 100 point round, which is a couple-week turnaround.
The crowd at ATT is loud, including someone who has a drum.
Jason Jackson Vs Marcelo “Grilo” Alfaya
Grilo’s mouthpiece came out early in the fight before anything even happened. Looks like it came off a jab. Not sure what happened there. After two minutes of jabbing from both guys, Grilo went for a takedown. Fight goes back to standing and with a second left, Grilo shoots in and pulls guard with Jackson on top of him. Jackson gets out of there. Jackson’s movement is excellent.
Jackson is peppering Grilo with jabs and right hands. Lambert is worried and says they need to do something about it. Finally, after taking four minutes-worth of jabs to the face, Grilo goes for a takedown and pushes him up against the fence. However, Jackson gets out of it quickly.
Winner: Jason Jackson by way of majority decision
The scores were 19-19, 20-18, and 20-18.
Final thoughts: Well, that fight sucked. And because of that, the episode wasn’t much better. This season has been quite the disappointment so far.
