It’s episode three of The Ultimate Fighter: American Top Team Vs Blackzilians.
Dana White’s synopsis so far of the competition: the Blackzilians lay on top of the guys and win.
One of the Blackzilians said that his wine was stolen and it turns out that it was Michael Graves from ATT, though he lied and said it wasn’t him.
Dan Lambert said that they needed to get a win after two losses and chose Steve Carl to fight the next fight. He said he trains with UFC guys all the time.
The Blackzilians chose Valdir Araujo to fight. Rashad Evans wanted to step on their throat. He’s a veteran, but he’s new to the team. He’s also the guy whose wine was stolen. His nickname is Baby Monster.
Carl was worried about the weight cut and said the sauna and steam room is on the Blackzilians side of the house, so it’s easier for them to do it.
Dana White loves the fight because he thinks Baby Monster is going to go for submissions and Carl has big fight experience.
Carl came in 3/4 of a pound overweight and has one hour to cut weight. Tyrone Spong was upset that Carl was using their sauna. Michael Johnson agreed and they tried to kick him out. Nate Coy, the ATT captain, stood by his guy and didn’t let them kick Carl out. There was almost going to be fisticuffs.
White agreed with Sprong and said it was their gym and they could do what they want. ATT’s scouting report was that Baby Monster couldn’t take a punch.
Steve Carl Vs Valdir “Baby Monster” Araujo
Carl was trying to go for the knockout early and Baby Monster decided that he didn’t want to trade and immediately went for the takedown. He got it after a struggle, but couldn’t keep Carl down. Carl and Baby traded positions up against the cage, but no one really had an advantage.
Baby Monster was doing well with leg kicks, but it turned into a wrestling match again, much like the first round. Carl had Baby Monster up against the cage, but he didn’t protect for the guillotine and Baby Monster sunk it in and tapped him out. The Blackzilians gym erupted.
Winner: Valdir “Baby Monster” Araujo by second round submission
Carl wonders if this is his last shot and it was his first fight for ATT and he feels like he let them down. Lambert says you train hard, you win your fight, and you shut them up.
This was the best of the three episodes so far. I understand the gym dynamic much better now. And we finally got a finish. I was a bit bothered with the gym owners feuding all the time because it seemed so petty, but now it makes a lot more sense.
