The Legends speak out about Mayweather vs Pacquiao.
This is the second piece HBO has done for the upcoming Mayweather vs Pacquiao fight and it’s actually quite different than the normal hype of fight hype you’d expect these days.
Rather than taking a 24/7 look at each fighter like Showtime’s “Inside Mayweather Vs Pacquiao” or a historical outlook like the HBO’s “At Last“, this show takes an expert look at the fight, from guys who have been in the ring with both fighters as well a roster of historically great fighters who have been in huge fights like George Foreman, Lennox Lewis, and Bernard Hopkins.
I enjoyed it, but I’m not sure we really got all that much more insight into the fight than we already had. Guys like Oscar De La Hoya have political reasons to root how they are and I’m not sure that makes for compelling television.
The other problem I had with the show is that in discussing Pacquiao, there was a reliance on talking about Pacquiao’s fights from 2008-2010, when he truly was a killer. But I’m not sure if that’s the Pacquiao we’re going to see in the ring on Saturday.
Maybe the most enjoyable part of the show was watching Hopkins stand up and mimic Mayweather’s defensive stance in trying to prove his point that Pacquiao’s going to be able to start fast.
Jim Lampley and Max Kellerman host the show.
