HBO Sports’ documentary on the making of Mayweather vs Pacquiao is extremely well done.
And not only is it extremely well done, it’s also miles ahead of the first episode of the Sho Sports series on the fight.
The reality of the situation is that HBO Sports does this type of fight hype better than anyone else. Sho Sports has spent a lot of time and money trying to duplicate HBO Sports’ 24/7 with their All Access series, but it’s never been quite as good.
With “At Last”, you see the history of how the fight was finally made and while HBO is supporting Pacquiao and there is a slight bias toward Pacquiao, it’s just overall good storytelling. And of course, you have the familiar dulcet tones of Liev Schreiber.
Is there anything groundbreaking in the documentary? No. You also won’t learn too much. But it’s shot and presented as something very special, which is also what the Inside Mayweather Vs Pacquiao series was lacking. At least with the first episode, it was treated like any other fight.
I do wonder about Pacquiao’s statement about the original divide in the making of the fight not being about blood testing. Either he doesn’t want to take responsibility for not getting the fight done the first time, or it truly was something more than that, which is what I’ve suspected all along.
Not to say that the blood testing didn’t have anything to do with it because it obviously did, but I think it was more than just that. It was about egos and who deserved what. And it’s still like that just 11 days until fight time.
