So far, episode three is the best of Showtime’s Inside Mayweather Vs Pacquiao hype series.
While this series has been a disappointment in a storytelling sense, this episode is the best when it comes to creating interest in Mayweather. They’ve yet to really establish Manny Pacquiao as a threat, if their goal with this series was to sell even more PPVs, it’s exactly what they should’ve done. But this episode best gets “inside” Mayweather’s head a bit about what this fight means for his legacy. Always a hard worker, he made sure that he’d have even less distractions before the fight.
This episode also utilizes Juan Manuel Marquez, Ricky Hatton, and Shane Mosley as guys who have faced both men before. Missing were Oscar De La Hoya (you know what side he’s on) and Miguel Cotto. This was also done on HBO Sports’ Legends Speak. And Oscar was very much on that one.
But I felt the interactions with the three fighters were done better on this episode. It was shot and narrated in a more intriguing way, even though they were saying similar things.
Mayweather is shown saying that he has only two more fights left and then he’s done. It seemed like he meant it. And if that’s really the case, it proves even more how important this fight is to him.
There is one episode left.
