Top Five – Mayweather Vs Pacquiao

Mayweather vs Pacquiao

I don’t think it’s hard to figure out what the top story is this week.

While Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao overshadows everything this week, there was still a ton of stuff going on.

Before we get to the stories that missed the Top Five, how about Vince McMahon?

Jeez Vince. You’re the opposite of the poster boy for your wellness plan.

– Anderson Silva failed for more steroids.

Stipe Miocic and Mark Hunt should be a fun heavyweight fight for Australia in May.

Urijah Faber says Dana White asked him if he would face TJ Dillashaw.

– Premier Boxing Champions is also coming to CBS.

– This should be a fantastic battle.

– WWE goes offensive against CM Punk. Technically, it’s Chris Amann’s lawsuit, but the WWE went all in with their press release.

– Samoa Joe leaves TNA. Where does Samoa Joe go? From what we know when wrestlers of his echelon leave one of the main groups, he’ll have his suitors early on. I would love to see him go back to ROH to try and help that group, but there’s also Lucha Underground and New Japan. And maybe he’ll work two of them?

And now, onto the top 5.

GGG beats a game Martin Murray.

Duan got pretty damn close with his prediction. And while Murray hung tight and showed tremendous testicular fortitude, I think GGG also proved something in that he can be patient, pick his spots, and when it’s time to turn it on, he can turn it on. It would seem that someone like Miguel Cotto would be a big time fight for him, but no one knows if Cotto wants the fight. According to Oscar De La Hoya, Cotto was the stop gap in not making the Canelo Alvarez/Cotto fight. (By the way, that’s what De La Hoya said; not that it happened that way.)

Someone threw their hat into the ring via Twitter. Now, is there any validity to Julio Cesar Chavez’s statement since it seemed before that he didn’t want anything to do with GGG? You can decide what you believe.

4. Big UFC fights are on the horizon.

The UFC announced the main fights for their May 23rd card, which is a huge card. They also announced that Robbie Lawler would face Rory MacDonald as the second title match on the International Fight Week card in July headlined by Jose Aldo and Connor McGregor.

3. Roman Reigns vs Brock Lesnar is your WrestleMania 31 main event.

Roman Reigns beat Daniel Bryan in a really strong main event to cement his status as number one contender for Brock Lesnar’s WWE World Heavyweight title. John Cena passed out rather than tap out in losing to Rusev. And Sting answered Triple H.

2. The UFC announces increased PED testing.

Dana White and Lorenzo Fertita hosted a press conference to describe a new testing policy that they’d like to get in gear. It’s something that they needed to do and we’ll see how it affects the rest of the year. They did acknowledge that it would get worse (they would lose fights), before it got better (cleaning up the sport).

1. Mayweather vs Pacquiao is on.

Everyone in the world now knows this. Mayweather vs Pacquiao is on. As you can expect, along with WrestleMania 31 and some of the bigger UFC shows, we’ll be on this on. Duan and I will be writing about it over the next few months and discussing it on FGB Radio.

(In a smaller story, Canelo Alvarez conceded the weekend and pushed his fight against James Kirkland to the following week.)

As for now? I’m taking Mayweather by decision. I think Pacquiao will be successful early at breaking Mayweather’s tempo, but I’ve never seen Mayweather hit convincingly enough to believe that Pacquiao will be able to change that. But I’d love to see him do it. I’d love to see Mayweather tested like no one has tested him. Is Pacquiao that guy? If he’s not, there won’t be anyone else at that weight. Here’s your last chance to see Mayweather tested until he retires.

  1. David says:

I would love to see Floyd knock this bum out. After seeing years of B.S. Videos of Floyd is scared, Floyd doesn’t want to fight me. We gonna see the truth about Emmanuel and Bob Arum won’t be able to save him. I got Floyd Mayweather by Knockout mid to late.
