The Rock is in Philadelphia. What could it mean for the Royal Rumble?
It may mean nothing, but it is a bit conspicuous that he’d be in the same city as the WWE’s second largest PPV of the year. He showed up unannounced at Raw in 2014 to do a segment with Rusev and Lana which ended with him sending Rusev out of the ring.
He also taped a segment for the 15th anniversary of Smackdown with Triple H which was maybe the single most entertaining TV segment on WWE television all year.
If (and the if is huge) Rock is going to be in town for WWE business, there are a couple prospective matches that could still happen.
While Triple H looks to be headed for a match with Sting, Rock did the segment with Rusev, which could work as a setup for a one-match program between them. But, the bigger match may be one with Brock Lesnar. Rock has said in the past that he only wants to do big WrestleMania programs that he can sink his teeth into. He mentioned that the big plan for WrestleMania 30 was to work with Brock Lesnar before he hurt himself in the WrestleMania 29 match with John Cena.
If Brock Lesnar loses at the Royal Rumble, he would essentially be without an opponent for WrestleMania.
This is all conjecture as we don’t really have an idea why he’s in Philadelphia, but the guy wanted all of his fans to know. He sure can get people talking.
