It’s the eleventh episode of the all-female season TUF 20 in which the strawweight champion will be determined.
We have two fights on this show. Tecia Torres and Carla Esparza face off and we also get Joanne Calderwood vs Rose Namajunas.
Tecia talks about when she beat Felice Herrig in Invicta, Carla Esparza as the champion came into the cage after her match to call her out. She wants to keep the fight standing.
Carla didn’t think it was fair that Tecia would get a second chance, but she did think she’d eventually fight her.
Tecia Torres Vs Carla Esparza
Esparza actually got the better of the early exchanges, but didn’t seem to have a lot of power. She was dogged in her attempt at a takedown. She chased her around the octagon and finally got a hold of her leg, though Torres didn’t go down. She finally got her down with a headlock and was pounding on her with her left hand while still holding the headlock. She got a big takedown with less than a minute to go to secure the round.
Carla continued to dominate with her wrestler. She’d grab a leg and Torres would hop on one foot to try and get away. Esparza caught her with a nice double leg. She was all over her and wouldn’t let Tecia get any distance to get her stand up going. She should win easily.
Winner: Carla Esparza by way or majority decision
One of the judges must’ve given Torres the first round.
After the fight Esparza started puking. She now faces Jessica Penne in one of the semi-finals.
Calderwood says she’s fighting to represent Scotland. Her strategy is to be aggressive right out of the gate.
Namajunas broke down and had to leave the octagon because of frustration. She says her coaches encourage her to ride her frustrations and let it out.
Joanne Calderwood Vs Rose Namajunas
Namajunas got off early with a kick to the face. Calderwood smothered her and kept her on her back. Namajunas got up and they clinched against the fence. Namajunas got off some nice punches and landed. Calderwood got her down again. Namajunas was trying to submit her off her back, but couldn’t extend the arm for the arm bar. Namajunas ended up on top. It’s a close round, but I’d give it to Rose.
Calderwood was dominating the second round from the start, knocking Namajunas down with a push kick. She pushed her up against the cage and was landing some nice shots. Instinctively, Namajunas went for the takedown as a defensive move. Namajunas got a surprise kimura to win the fight.
Winner: Rose Namajunas by way of 2nd round submission
The semi-finals fights are Carla Esparza vs Jessica Penne and Rose Namajunas vs Randa Markos.
