It’s the seventh episode of the all-female season TUF 20 in which the strawweight champion will be determined.
The next fight is 7th ranked Rose Namajunas facing 10th ranked Alex Chambers. This might be the time for Team Melendez to get their first win.
The house is divided as people who dislike Heather and people who don’t mind Heather. Gilbert Melendez must be wondering what he got himself into.
Heather’s ACL is torn. Angela Magana apologized to Heather for telling her that she thought she had a fake knee injury.
Rose says she’s been sexually harassed and abused all her life and that’s why she shows the tough look on her face. She says her fiance, Pat Barry has helped her open up about it. Gilbert says Rose is known for her slick submissions and tricky kicks.
Megan Rapinoe and Sydney Leroux, women’s national soccer players for Team USA showed up in the gym to chat with the fighters.
Alex Chambers is 35, but says she likes to keep that a secret from the rest of them. Alex remembers fighting on an Invicta card with Rose and they both got submissions, but Rose’s was faster.
Poor Alex barely got any TV time as this episode was all about Rose.
Alex Chambers (7) Vs Rose Namajunas (10)
Rose is very quick and able to out-point Alex with her standup. She has some flashy kicks and fast hands. I’m not sure how much power is behind it, but it looks good. Alex scored with a counter right hand that looked like it had something behind it, but she wasn’t really able to do much else. Rose scored a couple takedowns and then got one late that led to a rear naked choke finish. She looked good.
Winner: Rose Namajunas by way of 1st round submission
Both women cried after the fight. Rose cried as a way to let out all her emotions from wanting it so badly. Alex cried because she knew she could do better.
The last fight of the first round is Tecia Torres vs Bec Rawlings. So it’s not like Melendez got to pick the next fight anyway.
