Under the Nine for IX banner, ESPN 30 for 30’s latest short is based on Ronda Rousey.
I hope that in some way it will be part of that bigger push where you see more and more women whether it’s in MMA or technology or whatever field it’s in, refusing to wait their turn. Refusing to stay in their place and try to be Miss Congeniality instead of being champion of the world.
That statement comes from Ronda’s mother, AnnMaria De Mars, who according to the short was very much against Ronda taking up MMA. She didn’t see a future in it.
She wasn’t the only one. Rousey’s boss Dana White was also against it and Ronda’s goal was to prove him wrong.
The piece is about 15 minutes long. It looks great. Make sure you watch it in full screen. It follows Rousey before her fight with Liz Carmouche and quickly shows her rise to being one of the top stars in the UFC and because of it, being a strong role model for young women.
There’s also outtakes on the Nine for IX website.
