It’s interesting to me that they didn’t hit on the grudge like they did both in the preview and Face Off videos. There was really no talk about the A side vs B side stuff that was the big concern from the Sergio Martinez camp. Maybe in part two, they’ll discuss it a bit.

This episode is mostly about the quality of fighters we’ll see this Saturday. On one hand, you have Miguel Cotto who is possibly the fourth biggest draw in boxing today. He’s now trained by Freddie Roach who is trying to get the best out of Cotto’s last few years in the ring. Roach himself won yet another trainer of the year award and after a few slow years, is back on top with Manny Pacquiao, Ruslan Provodnikov, and Cotto.

On the other hand, you have the middleweight champion who is trying to overcome nagging injuries that come with old age, but when he’s healthy, he’s one of the top pound for pound fighters in the game. They look at his fight with Martin Murry, which was a bit of a disappointment because of how close the fight was, but talk about how Martinez broke his hand in the second round and was fighting on an injured knee.

It’s Cotto’s re-dedication to his left-hook and fixing prior issues that Roach sees vs the aging athleticism by the bigger Martinez. I hope we get a little bit of a grudge in episode two, but episode one showed both guys as stars who are on a collision course. In now way was this one of the best episodes of 24/7, but it was solid work to hype the fight.
