WWE Extreme Rules Live Coverage: The Shield Vs. Evolution

Extreme Rules live coverage

Via WWE.com

The first two post-WrestleMania Raws made the product feel fresh. There were new programs starting and new guys being featured. However, the last two Raws were stale and took a lot of wind out of the sail. But, they can get a lot of momentum back with a great show tonight.

I missed the pre-show match, but it sounds like the WeeLC match was a whole lot of fun and nonsense.

Here’s our Extreme Rules live coverage.

1. Rob Van Dam Vs. Jack Swagger Vs. Cesaro

Paul Heyman cut a promo which was a tease for ECW (since this is Extreme Rules), but the punch line was for his usual Brock Lesnar line. He’s too good.

This is triangle match rules, so there will be two eliminations.

The first elimination was RVD hitting the 5 Star Frog Splash onto Swagger. Cesaro suplexed Swagger into the ring in his show of strength move where he stands on the bottom rope. After he hit it, RVD hit splash so it was like the old Power and Glory move.

RVD put a trash can on Cesaro and set him up for another 5 Star, but he got out of the way and RVD got all can. Cesaro then hit the Neutralizer for the win.

Winner: Cesaro

Stephanie McMahon told Daniel Bryan she couldn’t control Masked Kane and Bryan should forfeit the title.

2. Alexander Rusev Vs. Xavier Woods and R-Truth

Rusev beat up Woods before the match and made it a one-on-one. Truth got some offense in, but it was squash city after that. Out of all Rusev’s impressive moves, I love the big man spinning heel kick the most. He beat him with the camel clutch.

Winner: Alexander Rusev

Evolution did an interview and I don’t think Batista spoke.

3. Bad News Barrett Vs. Big E

There was very little heat for this match until the end and Big E got zero reaction when he came into the ring. It was a nice big man’s match with Big E trying to set up the Big Ending and Barrett trying to hit the Bull Hammer elbow.

Big E hit the Big Splash and tried to follow up with his finisher, but Barrett slipped out. He went for the elbow, but Big E ducked and hit the ropes, but Barrett hit it off the ropes.

Winner: Bad News Barrett

4. Evolution Vs. The Shield

This was really good stuff. Much of the in-ring was Evolution beating up on Dean Ambrose. Roman Reigns got the hot tag and went insane. He hit flying clotheslines on everyone. They put Batista in the triple power bomb, but Evolution interfered to break up the count. Rollins missed a dive over the top rope and crashed and burned. Triple H hit Reigns with the Pedigree and put Big Dave on him, who was out after Reigns did the kick to the head draped over the bottom rope. Reigns kicked out. Orton hit him with a RKO and he kicked out again.

Triple H and Orton took Ambrose into the crowd and beat him up. The camera work was cool. Earlier, one of the camera guys fell to make it feel like a real brawl. The camera work outside the ring felt more handheld and in your face. As they were beating up Ambrose, Reigns dove from the atop the upper deck and hit a body press on both of them. That was nuts.

Back inside the ring, Batista and Reigns were still slow to get up. Batista hit the spine buster slam and went to shake the ropes. He went for the Batista Bomb, but Reigns hit the Superman punch. He hit the spear and Big Dave was pinned.

Winner: The Shield

5. John Cena Vs. Bray Wyatt

This was overbooked and way too long. I liked the WrestleMania match better, mostly for the psychology rather than the finish. The problem was that it was a cage match, but Cena would continually try to climb over the top or walk out instead of pin, which means that Rowan and Harper would interfere. It was really dumb.

The action inside the cage was fine, but it was hard to suspend disbelief without thinking Cena was a tool bag. Right as Cena was about to walk out as it was finally clear the lights went out and then a young male child looking possessed starting singing, “You’ve got the whole world,” to him and he walked into Wyatt’s Sister Abigail. Bray then walked out with the kid. It was pretty creepy

Winner: Bray Wyatt

6. Tamina Vs. Paige

Not sure what could’ve been put in the spot before the main event and succeeded. Paige won with the Scorpion Cross Lock

Winner: Paige

7. Daniel Bryan Vs. Kane

Bryan rushed Kane as he walked down the aisle. As it should’ve been based on the story, this was all brawl with very little wrestling. And it wasn’t in the ring for much time. Kane and Bryan used kendo sticks, chairs, the steps, and the ring post before heading to the back. There, Bryan hit him with a tire iron and had to figure out how to get him back to the ring. He used a forklift to bring Kane back to the ring and dumped him into the ring. He then jumped from the platform to do the diving head butt. Kane kicked out.

Kane hit the choke slam on Bryan and then brought a chair into the ring. He wanted to tombstone Bryan onto the chair, but it was reversed and he DDT’d him on the chair. Bryan tried to hit his tope, but was caught in a choke slam on the announcer’s table. Kane brought out a table and set it on fire. Bryan knocked Kane off the apron and through the fire table. He then hit the flying knee to win.
