All Access: Mayweather vs. Maidana episode two is up and again, the narrative is consistent with the last episode – rich versus simple.
The episode was entertaining from the start with Robin Leach doing a faux “Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous” episode from Floyd’s house. And right after that, you see Maidana in his small home kissing his newborn. Mayweather drives to Fat Burger and gets heckled by tons of fans. Maidana shoots guns somewhere out in the field chasing a duck. But man, these weren’t just pistols.
I’m not quite sure if I’m not buying Maidana as a contender like you usually can with these shows because they’re not selling him properly or simply because it’s harder to fall for the okey doke against Mayweather. You see the same kind of training montages you always see with Maidana doing sprint work with Alex Ariza. Ariza is his strength and conditioning coach for this fight and he’s looking at body fat and weighing him and putting him on the proper strength diet. But at some point, you wonder how much of that stuff really works when the supposed boxing talent discrepancy is as wide as it is.
There was also a hilarious cameo by Brandon Rios who bought floor seats for $3000 in row G and yet, couldn’t figure out how far back he was. Robert Garcia tried to explain it to him by counting with the letters A through G, and yet, Rios was still having trouble figuring it out.
This is a Floyd Mayweather production and the fight is secondary so far. We’ll see if they can hammer home that Maidana can really hurt Mayweather in the last episode. Garcia thinks that Maidana can hurt Floyd to the body, but I’m not yet convinced how he’s catching him.
