The Raw Rerun – Rey Mysterio Is Back!

rey mysterio is back

It was the go-home country-themed Raw to get to the Survivor Series and the only thing I looked forward to was a match that wasn’t going to happen and Rey Mysterio.

Wrestling works y’all.

The show ended with a fantastic 12-man tag team with some of the best workers in the company. It was really shows that what can get you most excited about wrestling is, well, wrestling. It was majestic. It was beautiful. Daniel Bryan, CM Punk, the Usos, and the Rhodes vs. The Shield and The Wyatts was a perfect match. Everyone looked good. The match never really slowed down. And it was fun. Fun!

I want to take some space to give credit to Seth Rollins who might not be the one who WWE wants to push the most. But to me, he’s the Shield MVP. He takes the best bumps and he doesn’t take them in a Dolph Ziggler way. By that I mean, Ziggler takes bumps so crazily sometimes, he’s putting himself over as an amazing athlete. Rollins is taking bumps and makes the move look spectacular and the match better. He’s the workhorse and it will pain me when they break up the Shield and have nothing for him.

Punk pinned Ambrose for the win and the Real Americans came out to cause havoc. And then…

That brought out Rey Mysterio who to me, is one of the greatest wrestlers I’ve ever seen. He’s been oft-injured and it was hard to see how hard it was for him to run down to the ring, but once he as there, it was old Rey again. He hit the 619 on Jack Swagger and Rowan and Punk and Bryan looked really happy to be in there in the ring with him.

Mysterio will now be part of a 5 on 5 elimination Survivor Series match with the Usos and the Rhodes brothers against the Shield and the Real Americans. That match should be excellent, but not as excellent as what they teased us with last week. Well, I guess Vince McMahon knows what we want more than we know what we want.

Is Survivor Series worth buying?

If you think about what should sell a show, this show is missing it in nearly every category. Both the WWE title match between Randy Orton and the Big Show and John Cena and Alberto Del Rio have had very lame builds. With the first match, it’s really The Authority vs. The Big Show, with Randy Orton as the pawn. Do you really want your champion as the pawn?

To start the show, Triple H and Steph came out and said they didn’t like last week’s show and it was all because of Brad Maddox and Vickie Guerrero. They were then going to embarrass them by putting them in matches. Just think about that for a second. Brad Maddox and Vickie Guerrero kiss ass so much, not only to get that job originally, but to also keep it. They fight over it. Why? Who wants to constantly be talked down to and embarrassed? Why would anyone want that job?

Orton was also downplayed a lot on this show. He’s now like a needy child who doesn’t get enough attention from Steph and Hunter and how do they resolve that situation? Well, they won’t allow the Shield to help him beat the Big Show. I imagine that’s a swerve, but Triple H is continually positioning himself as the top dog in the company. Can’t Brock Lesnar just come out and look at Triple H and laugh or something?

As for Cena vs. Del Rio, there’s nothing we haven’t seen before and if Del Rio can’t beat a one-armed super Cena who is just a month from triceps surgery, then I’m not sure why we should have any interest in this match. And even if he does beat him, it’ll be just to set up another revenge victory.

CM Punk and Daniel Bryan vs. The Wyatts should be a good match. But I’m not sure where the babyfaces have really been in peril and what the consequences are for them losing if they do. The work should be good at least on the babyface side, so I’m looking forward to the match, but there needs to be an underlining storyline here, which is, Punk and Bryan are continually being passed over.

Other interesting things that happened

The Miz fully turned on Kofi and they will face off in the kickoff match. Big E won the Intercontinental title from Curtis Axel, which is very cool, but I have a feeling we’ll be saddled with return matches which aren’t that enticing. Xavier Woods also debuted in a tag team with R-Truth.

Here’s what we have for the Survivor Series so far:

WWE Champion Randy Orton vs. Big Show
World Heavyweight Champion John Cena vs. Alberto Del Rio
CM Punk & Daniel Bryan vs. Erick Rowan & Luke Harper
WWE Tag Team Champions Cody Rhodes & Goldust, The Usos & Rey Mysterio vs. The Shield & The Real Americans (Traditional Survivor Series Elimination Tag Team Match)
Natalya, The Bellas, The Funkadactyls, JoJo & Eva Marie vs. Divas Champion AJ Lee, Tamina Snuka, Kaitlyn, Rosa, Summer Rae, Aksana & Alicia Fox
Kofi Kingston vs. The Miz (Survivor Series Kickoff Match)
