The last UFC Primetime with Cain Velasquez and Junior Dos Santos was flat out boring. Let’s hope that this UFC Primetime is better.
Here’s the UFC Primetime: St-Pierre vs. Hendricks recap (video of full episode at the bottom):
When GSP heard that Johny Hendricks was going to Las Vegas three weeks early to train in a regular sized octagon, he decided to buy a regular sized octagon for his gym in Montreal so that Hendricks wouldn’t get the edge. You mean he didn’t already have one?
Hendricks says his goal isn’t just to win. He wants to devour and crush his opponents so they don’t want to fight him.
Hendricks’ dad said his sons had to wrestle. It wasn’t an option. A turning point in Hendricks’ life was losing a wrestling match because of a bad call and rather than hang out with his friends the next day, he told his dad he was never going to let that happen again and worked out instead.
St-Pierre is continuing with his track and field and gymnastics training for this fight. Camp St-Pierre brought in Rick Story, the only guy to beat Hendricks, to help him train for the fight. He said that you have to be insane and crazy in the head to be champion because you’re always thinking about scenarios.
Final thoughts:
It was better than the Cain/JDS Primetime, but that’s not saying much. As always, the key to these things is making viewers believe that the challenger has a chance to beat the great champion. I didn’t get that yet. But the stuff about Hendricks’ father and the wrestling training is a step in the right direction.
