After a white hot SummerSlam, Raw was a quite thorough follow-up to the main storyline, which should be the major program for the rest of the year.
John Cena needs surgery.
Cena opened Raw to say that the baseball that extends on the point of his elbow doesn’t actually have anything to do with an elbow injury. It’s the result of a torn triceps and the doctor didn’t want him wrestling at SummerSlam, but he had to. Come on reddit guy, you had to at least know that. He said that he’d be gone four to six weeks, which puts him back right around Royal Rumble time. My guess is based on his history, he beats that time.
He wanted to introduce Daniel Bryan who beat him fair and square at SummerSlam. A dejected Daniel Bryan came down to ringside and then soon there after, Stephanie McMahon followed. John Cena must’ve disappeared into thin air because I didn’t see him again.
The Corporation is back.
This all lead to… the corporation is back! Triple H, Stephanie McMahon, Vince McMahon, their corporate champion Randy Orton, and maybe even the Shield are large and in charge.
At this point, Stephanie tried to explain to Bryan that her husband, Triple H, had to do what he had to do. She said Bryan isn’t an A, but a solid B+. Stephanie is so much better as a snobby, entitled, a-hole. When she tries to be anything else, it very much comes across as fake since it’s probably not her own personality. Bryan was pissed off and knocked the microphone out of her hands. She called out security and they walked him out. He yelled, “No! No!” while leaving. I’m not sure if he should’ve tried to fight the security because his character isn’t Stone Cold Steve Austin. He’s a fantastic wrestler, not a bad-ass brawler. But he also can’t look weak in these moments either. Personally, I thought Bryan acted a little too bitchy with Steph.
Maybe Brad Maddox is with the new corporation too since he was putting babyfaces in matches all night against the Shield for things they’d previously said about Triple H. Dolph Ziggler and the Big Show were put in handicap matches against the Shield and lost.
The main event angle saw Vince and Stephanie in the ring with most of the wrestlers on the stage. The Shield stood in front of the ring to protect them. Triple H was introduced and cut one of those long type of promos he used to cut as a main event heel to open shows where he’d overuse phrases such as, “the fact of the matter is…” It was really long. But he was banging the point home that what he did in screwing Daniel Bryan out of the title was for the fans and for WWE. He said Daniel Bryan is a solid technician, but he’s not the future and Randy Orton is.
Orton came out and didn’t say much. He’s now in full beard, but his mustache doesn’t connect. Triple H called Bryan down to ringside. He told the Shield to chill out in case Bryan was scared of them. Bryan came out but the Shield quickly jumped him. He held them off, but then Roman Reigns speared him. He took it awkwardly. Triple H told him to come into the ring and they’ll give him a chance to speak. He stepped on the apron and immediately as he came into the ring, Randy Orton hit him with the RKO. And just like that, the corporation is back. They haven’t called it that yet, but that’s who they are.
CM Punk wants him a piece of Paul Heyman.
I don’t know how much traction this feud can have unless there are going to be more members of Heyman’s clan. CM Punk vs. Curtis Axel doesn’t have legs.
Early in the show, Heyman cut a promo forgiving Punk and promising him a chance to get his title back with Heyman leading the charge. But Punk had to apologize first. You can predict how that went over with Punk.
Punk came out and requested that Paul come out too. He said he was sorry, for taking his eyes of Lesnar. He’s sorry that he didn’t beat up Heyman more. Heyman brought Axel out for a fight. It wasn’t a match. It was a brawl which ended with Punk staring a dagger through Heyman.
I’m not quite sure what else they can do, but I imagine they have a few tricks up their sleeve.
And the rest…
- Cody Rhodes beat Damien Sandow again. What a feud that is.
- The Funkadactyls beat AJ and Layla. Weird usage of AJ.
- In a weird one, Sin Cara dislocated his finger in a match against Alberto Del Rio on a dive outside and he reacted like he broke his wrist. I’ve dislocated fingers before and I never grabbed my wrist and kicked my feet like I was going to die. The match was stopped. Yes, for a dislocated finger.
- Ricardo is back with RVD and RVD is the next guy to challenge Del Rio it looks like.
- The Primetime Players beat Jack Swagger and Antonio Cesaro. Go ahead Darren Young.
- Ryback bullied someone else. Just end his career please.
- Bray Wyatt beat R-Truth.
- Los Matadores are coming and they are the former Primo and Epico.
- The Usos beat 3MB.
- The Miz was about to beat Wade Barrett with the Figure Four, but Fandango came off the top rope with a sweet leg drop to break it up.
The beginning and end to the show were well worth watching. The corporation angle is really a rehash of something that has worked before and if it works here, I’m all for it. My fear is that Triple H’s presence means that he’s the focal point rather than Randy Orton. If the feud becomes Triple H vs. Daniel Bryan rather than Randy Orton vs. Daniel Bryan, I worry that Triple H will go into business for himself. One of the main reasons why Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. Vince McMahon worked is because Austin beat his ass every single time. Will Triple H’s ego allow him to not get the upper hand more often than not? I’m not quite sure about that.
