Raw was still a convoluted show with the babyfaces all facing each other, but it was more entertaining than it’s been the last two weeks.
The Wyatt family debuts.
They’re here!
After the great videos hyping them, their debut into WWE was a bit underwhelming, though I wouldn’t say it was a disappointment. After Kane beat Christian in a weird match of faces wrestling each other (in which they did because they’re in the same ladder match on Sunday), the Wyatt’s entrance video played and they came out and beat bumps on Kane.
(Supposedly, Kane may be held out of the Money In The Bank match on Sunday to sell the beating.)
Bray watched the beat down in a rocking chair while the crowd chanted Husky Harris at him. Crowds can be dicks sometimes.
I thought they should’ve made a bigger impact, though it’s week one on the go home show. Maybe they’ll show their true impact next week.
Daniel Bryan gets the briefcase.
In the opening match, Bryan beat Sheamus in a good big man/small man match. I fully expected Sheamus to win simply because they book him like he’s Triple H Jr. but instead, Bryan turned a Texas Cloverleaf submission by Sheamus into a small package to get the win. He was over like hotcakes even though it was two babyfaces wrestling.
At the end of the show, CM Punk and Randy Orton wrestled in the main event. Punk beat him with the GTS and Bryan came back out to knock both of them out of the ring and grab the briefcase that was sitting atop the ring all night. That usually means that Bryan won’t win on Sunday, but maybe they’re going to swerve the swerve.
Vickie is fired.
The reason the briefcase was atop the ring was because Vickie started the show with a promo that was done with her on a ladder with the briefcase in reach. She would have her job evaluation later in the show. Jerry Lawler said that fans were allowed to grade Vickie via the WWE App.
The job evaluation took place before the third hour. Triple H, Stephanie, and Vince came out to evaluate Vickie like she was on American Idol. All but Vince were major assholes and bullies. Stephanie, like always, came off ugliest, but Triple H out and out said Vickie was bad at her job and should be fired. Vince said Vickie should be permanent GM. Steph was the deciding vote. She decided to let the fans vote. So, the WWE App vote counted and by a 75/25 vote, Vickie was fired.
She was angry and then sad. Vince tried to console her. And he hired Brad Maddox as acting GM. Vickie was even more upset that Brad was chosen as her successor. Ryback, of all people, told her in the back that she’d be okay and that it was unfair.
And the rest…
- They are really turning the Kaitlyn angle into Piggie James all over again. It’s unfortunate. AJ and Dolph made up so that they could be the powerhouse couple again. This thing isn’t going to end well. I just hope AJ doesn’t get left in the dust because she’s why it’s working.
- The Shield beat Tons Of Funk. More interesting than the match is that supposedly, the tag title match between them and the Usos is going to be the pre-show match. That’s very odd considering how over the Shield is.
- Cena and Henry faced off and I can’t help but root for Henry here. His promo work is the best it’s ever been and you feel like everything he says is truthful, which is kind of backwards considering he’s the heel. Cena has slightly more shades than usual since he is trying hard to look tough, but is also scared of Henry. Henry beat him up, but Cena made a comeback only to get him up in the FU and then fall flat on his face. It’s what Mark Henry does.
- Chris Jericho pinned Curtis Axel oddly when a count out finish would’ve actually worked better. He and Ryback did nothing together on the show.
- Alberto Del Rio faced Sin Cara and looked to be well on his way to an easy win, but Dolph came out and Alberto met him outside. Sin Cara did a plancha on Del Rio and we did not have a winner. The show just went to commercial.
- AJ and Alicia Fox faced Kaitlyn and Layla. The Bellas were on commentary and said AJ must’ve smelled like food because Kaitlyn wanted to go after her so badly. Jeez. This match also didn’t have a finish.
I’ve kind of felt that they took some steam off The Shield and I’m not sure why. Also, Ryback and Jericho wasn’t built up at all. The Raw MitB match was slightly built up, but only to make us believe that Daniel Bryan is not going to win it. Maybe some of the actual build happens on Smackdown. But I will say, this show was definitely better than it’s been the last two weeks.
