WWE Payback recap for the first hour
The show opened with Curtis Axel winning the IC strap by pinning Wade Barrett who was in the figure four.
AJ defeated Kaitlyn by pinfall to win the Divas title.
Dean Ambrose defeated Kane by count out to keep his title.
Alberto Del Rio defeated Dolph Ziggler in what looks to be a double turn as Del Rio used Ziggler’s concussion as a target and win with the super kick. He also did a heel promo.
Chris Jericho vs. CM Punk
Really good match and Punk was the face throughout. Jericho didn’t really go heel. Lots of back and forth action and Punk finally beat him with two Go To Sleeps.
I’d put it up with just about any WWE match all year long, though, I wonder if it would’ve been as good without the great crowd. I guess that’s always part of it.
Winner: CM Punk
Daniel Bryan and Randy Orton vs. The Shield
No Orton heel turn. Bryan did a tope and the Shield moved so he hit Orton. This was all during Bryan’s hot tag. Orton came in to try and RKO Roman Reigns, who was setting up for the spear. He didn’t get it, but he pushed Bryan into the spear. He then hit the RKO. Seth Rollins hit the Curb Stomp on Bryan for the win. Orton walked to the back without Bryan.
Winner: The Shield
Ryback vs. John Cena
Lumberjack Match
There were a few instances of the guys going outside and getting hit by the lumberjacks. Ryback hit the Shell Shock to win the first fall.
Tables Match
Ryback went to get Cena in the Shell Shock again, but Cena reversed it into the AA and won the second fall.
Ambulance Match
They spent all of the match fighting near and around the ambulance. Cena threw Ryback into an open door and he ripped the door off its hinge. They then went to the top of the ambulance and Cena delivered the AA through the roof so I guess that means he just won the match.
