I enjoyed the first Bellator on Spike show enough to come back for more. It’s also King Mo’s first Bellator fight and Ben Askren makes a title defense. The welterweight tournament will also be on display tonight.
1. Koffi Adzitso vs. Ben Saunders
Most of the first round was on the ground. Saunders tried setting up a triangle. When they were back on the feet, he hit a knee strike to Adzitso’s face, which was the best shot of the round.
More really good ground work from Saunders. He went from triangle to omaplata, but Adzitso was good defensively. Saunders also knocked him down and tried to finish on the ground, but Saunders missed with his long reach. Limbs are too long for Adzitso.
Saunders just outworked him. Adzitso even tried to back suplex Saunders and Saunders landed on his face. Saunders was working an arm bar at the end of the round. Easy win for Saunders.
Winner: Ben Saunders by way of unanimous decision
2. Douglas Lima vs. Michail Tsarev
The only thing even noteworthy was a kick to the knee at the end of the bell by Lima. Tsarev went down awkwardly and was limping around.
At the start of the second, Lima went right after the knee. Tsarev would get back up and Lima would kick him right back down. Tsarev could barely stand up. It looked absolutely painful before the referee finally stopped it.
Winner: Douglas Lima by way of 2nd round TKO
3. Przemyslaw Mysiala vs. King Mo
Mo figured out very early on that Mysiala couldn’t hurt him. He pretty much toyed with him. He didn’t use any wrestling. He bloodied him up with jabs and knocked him out with a short right hand. Wasn’t very much of a test for Mo.
Winner: King Mo by way of 1st round TKO
Mo didn’t necessarily get himself over with his promo, but a first round TKO is good enough for now.
4. Karl Amoussou vs. Ben Askren
Askren sure kept his rep. Amoussou either slipped or he was hit with a short punch and was on his back early on. And from there, Askren just peppered him with shots from the top and busted him wide open over his eye. The cut looks kind of uncontrollable, which doesn’t bode well for Amoussou.
Askren went for a takedown but ended up on his back. Amoussou secured a knee bar and looked to be asking the referee if he was going to stop it. Askren looked to be in pain, but escaped, and then ended up back on top. Amoussou talked before the fight about using his jiu-jitsu if he was taken down, but he’s been able to do nothing. Askren just stayed on top of him and pounded him.
Askren got caught with a short punch coming in, but it didn’t stop him from trying to shoot in. Amoussou finally gave in and pretended like he was going for a guillotine on his back. He had nothing. And Ben is right back on top of him. Amoussou’s left eye is a mess.
The doctor/referee stopped the fight after the third round because of his eye.
Winner: Ben Askren by way of 3rd round TKO
