SummerSlam (25th Annual) Play By Play: Brock Lesnar Vs. Triple H

The key to Brock Lesnar was about making him bigger than life and in WWE, that shouldn’t have been hard. If the idea is that Lesnar is facing the Undertaker at WrestleMania 29, he should be built up huge with the streak on the line. The match with John Cena at Extreme Rules was absolutely perfect except for the finish. I imagine this match with Triple H will be damn good too. But what’s the finish? If part-time sports entertaininer Triple H beats the former UFC champion, how much does it hurt Brock (and Taker) heading into WrestleMania? I’d love to think that Triple H understands the deal and that Lesnar goes over, but I’m not so sure. At any point, the match should be super good.

1. Antonio Cesaro vs. Santino

I didn’t catch all of the match, but the story was that Santino lost his cobra and thus, couldn’t put it on. Cesaro tore it up, but Santino had a backup cobra but Cesaro hit him and then hit his finisher. Cesaro is now the US champ.

Winner: Antonio Cesaro

2. Dolph Ziggler vs. Chris Jericho

We got a “Come on baybeeeh!” from Ziggler before we got one from Jericho. Wow, Jericho won with the Walls Of Jericho (and not the Boston Crab version). It was a really good back and forth match. Ziggler hit the Zig Zag for a two count. Then Jericho hit the Code Breaker. Vickie nearly caused Jericho to get small packaged, but then it was Walls right in the middle of the ring.

Winner: Chris Jericho

Does that mean Dolph Ziggler cashes in his Money In The Bank tonight?

3. Daniel Bryan vs. Kane

Bryan won! He small packaged Kane for the win after a pretty decent match. Kane went for the Tombstone and it was reversed.

Winner: Daniel Bryan

Kane was very angry after the match and needs anger management.

4. The Miz vs. Rey Mysterio

The Miz won a fun match. It was your typical Rey match with him as the babyface in peril. Miz tried to hit the Skull Crushing finale, but Mysterio reversed it and nearly got the three count. But Miz tossed him face-first into the turnbuckle and hit his finisher for the win.

Winner: The Miz

5. Alberto Del Rio vs. Sheamus

Sheamus won on a flukey finish. Del Rio was upset that he didn’t get the win and decided to take it out on Ricardo, but it was only to get him in the ring to interfere. He tossed his shoe to Del Rio, but Del Rio missed and Sheamus got it and hit him with it. He then hit his finish for the win. However, Del Rio’s leg was on the rope as the three was counted.

Winner: Sheamus

No Dolph Ziggler.

6. The Prime Time Players vs. Kofi Kingston and R-Truth

The champs retrained when R-Truth pinned Darren Young with a downward spiral. Nothing special about the match. Would’ve turned away about 700,000 viewers on Raw at 10:15PM.

Winner: Kofi Kingston and R-Truth

7. John Cena vs. The Big Show vs. CM Punk

Well that was the worst finish ever. Punk used a finisher similar to a triangle on Show while Cena put in the STF while Show tapped. AJ came out skipping. She restarted the match.

Show hit the double chokeslam. He went for the punch on Cena but missed. Cena hit the FU on Show but Punk threw Cena out and pinned Show.

Winner: CM Punk

8. Brock Lesnar vs. Triple H

Before the match, Triple H told the ref he didn’t want any DQs or count outs. I guess he can just make the rules.

Brock continually went for the kimura. He also shoulder blocked Triple H into the turnbuckle from a double leg. Triple H didn’t scout it very well.

Triple H started to go after Lesnar’s stomach teasing that the diverticulitis was an issue. Heyman was selling it brilliantly like that was the one thing they didn’t have an answer for.

Triple H hit two pedigrees and Lesnar hit one F5. On the second pedigree, Lesnar pulled guard and wrenched the kimura once more and Triple H tapped out. Not as good as the Cena match, but the psychology was brilliant.

Winner: Triple H
