Following on from the IBF’s February 9th announcement of Froch as mandatory challenger to Bute’s title, promoter Eddie Hearn today confirmed that a deal has been finalized to bring the fight to Froch’s home town of Nottingham on May 26th.

Carl Froch will challenge Lucian Bute for the IBF World super middleweight title at the Capital FM Arena in Nottingham on May 26.
Carl Froch:
“It’s a dream come true to get this opportunity to become a three-time World Champion in my hometown of Nottingham,”.
“The Super Six was an incredible journey for me but I missed fighting in the UK and it was important that Eddie and I made that happen and for it to be for a World title is the icing on the cake. I’m ready to go to war all over again.”
Lucian Bute:

I am very confident and it will not faze me fighting in enemy territory. Supporters of Carl Froch will live their greatest disappointment. The IBF belt will fly roundtrip Montreal-Nottingham and back!”

It will mark the the first time that Bute has fought outside of Canada or Romania since November 2004, when as a seven fight novice he stopped Norman Johnson in two rounds in Boston.
As a major attraction and title holder, Bute has never really needed to take fights on the road. His level of opposition has been questioned a lot recently, particularly his decision to sit out the Super Six, but he deserves enormous credit for agreeing to take on Froch in the UK.
Hearn has done extraordinarily well to get a home tie for his fighter, who in truth is overdue one following four consecutive fights on the road to close out the Super Six.
Whichever way you slice it, this is a massive bout.
