UFC 134 – Yushin Okami Vs. Anderson Silva Play By Play

Surprisingly, fans are giving Yushin Okami more of a chance that I would’ve ever thought. Or maybe, they’re just trying to predict the day that Anderson Silva finally falls atop his perch of greatest fighter alive. In a poll I conducted on the Fight Game Blog Facebook page, Silva was clearly winning the poll, but out of 25 votes, 7 thought Okami was going to win. I’ll update the poll if it changes by fight time.

1. Stanislav Nedkov vs. Luiz Cane

Nedkov is just winging punches. Cane is too good of a stand-up fighter to to not take advantage of the sloppiness. Nedkov started off quickly and aggressively, but after being hit solidly a bit, he’s being more patient. And just like that, Nedkov blitzed him. He hit him with an overhand right and then a left and Cane was out on his feet. His legs were wobbly and he was trying to do the stanky leg. Nedkov then connected again and put his lights out. Wow.

Winner: Stanislav Nedkov by way of 1st round TKO.

2. Brendan Schaub vs. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira

Schaub looks a little soft while Big Nog looks a little thicker than usual. Looks like he wanted to have strength for Schaub. Schaub looked like he wanted to test Big Nog early and felt his power and decided to fight more cautiously. He’s trying to land an upper cut. And just like that, Big Nog put his lights out. That’s back to back wows for me.

Winner: Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira by way of 1st round TKO

3. Edson Barboza vs. Ross Pearson

I think Pearson took the round in a close one. Barboza is obviously trying to keep his distance so he can land leg kicks, but Pearson was doing a great job at being able to close the distance and land punches. Neither guy really rocked the other, but both looked good.

Barboza dropped him with a quick right hand, but Pearson got up immediately. But Barboza is finding range with the right hand. Both guys are landing punches, but because of the knockdown, I think you have to give this one to Barboza. Pearson went for a takedown, but it was stuffed. Pearson is a tough dude. Round three should decide this fight. Barboza has the handspeed while Pearson has the inside punches and seemingly, slightly more power.

Pearson is throwing a lunging left hook that’s starting to land. Pearson is doing a great job at feinting and landing. Barboza can’t really see the shots coming. Barboza opened him up with some clean shots. This is a close one. Neither guy could get a takedown. Great fight. Whoever wins this round should win the fight. I’ll take Pearson in a close one.

Winner: Edson Barboza by way of split decision

4. Forrest Griffin vs. Shogun Rua

Shogun hit Forrest with a punch and Forrest reacted weird. It looks like he was hit with a right, but Forrest didn’t react to it until Shogun missed two punches. Shogun followed it up and Forrest was fighting it, but was eventually finished on ground.

Winner: Shogun Rua by way of 1st round TKO

5. Yushin Okami vs. Anderson Silva

Not much going on in the round. Okami is landing his lead jab, but Silva is turning away from it to lessen the damage. Silva has no respect for his stand-up. He landed a high kick late that staggered Okami at the end of the round. Okami isn’t really trying to do much other than stand.

Silva is goofing off and dropped his hands. He let Okami jab him and then dropped Okami with a jab of his own. Silva put him down with a right hook and followed him to the ground. He didn’t even bother getting into position on the ground and finished him. Silva barely broke a sweat.

Winner: Anderson Silva by way of 2nd round TKO

  1. Watching Silva fight last night, we are seeing someone very special. He is disposing of the sport’s elite like they are amateurs. It will be a long time until we see another that can strike like this in MMA. He is on an entirely different level.
