Showtime Boxing – Rafael Marquez Vs. Juan Manuel Lopez

Pretty solid night of boxing so far and it should get better here. And I haven’t even gotten to the HBO fights yet.

Rafael Marquez vs. Juan Manuel Lopez

R1
Interesting first round – they were mostly feeling each other out, but Lopez was quicker and looked like he was starting to measure Marquez for a big shot. Marquez looked ok, maybe a bit tentative.

R2
Marquez is complaining that Lopez’s hooks are hitting him in the back of the head. Marquez looks like he’s waiting for Lopez to throw first and then he’s countering. He’s also doing a good job at making Lopez miss, but isn’t following up effectively quite yet. Marquez ended the round strongly, landing first on the last few exchanges.

R3
Marquez looked strong to start the round. But Lopez landed a straight hand that knocked Marquez off-balanced and Marquez followed up with a right hand. Lopez just looks like he’s biding his time until he gets him.

R4
Fantastic turn of events here. Marquez won the battle of left hooks and Lopez fell backward and then was caught with a right hand that shocked him again. He was then docked a point for pushing down on his head and hitting after the break. 10-8 round for Marquez here.

R5
Very close round. Marquez looks much more confident after last round. Marquez drops one level as they get inside and his short hook beats Lopez’s longer hook to the punch. Lopez is caught standing up. Lopez’s shots still looking stronger.

R6
Lopez came out with a much better game plan in the round to counter Marquez dropping a level. He threw more body shots, didn’t wait for Marquez to explode with his hooks before throwing his shots, and even threw some uppercuts as well. Good round for Lopez.

R7
Just as I’m about to say that I don’t know how much longer Marquez has, he lands a left hook that wobbles Lopez for a second. But really, that round was very one-sided. Marquez is just staying low and trying to unload and getting hit with three punches in a row before getting his off. Marquez has taken a lot of punishment.

R8
Marquez is taking a tremendous beating. He’s allowing himself to be a punching bag. He’s scoring with a hook here or there, but Lopez is dominating the fight right now. Both guys look tired, but Marquez looks exhausted.

Before the ninth round started, the referee waived the fight off. It looks like Marquez has a shoulder injury.

  1. Rafael Marquez is a bad actor and that’s why according to BOB there will be no rematch. (Viva PUERTO RICO) Juan Ma was robbed of the Knock Out!!! he was about to put on Rafael’s grill. However, I guess living near Hollywood has rubbed off on Mexico’s quitter Rafael Marquez. =)

So now that Marquez is finished, bring on Mr. Bad Defense Gamboa. And the next and the next and the next!!! Juan Ma will make believers much like Cotto did. By the way, I’d like to see another Puerto Rico /Mexico fight in (Cotto/Margarito 2) I’m 99.9% sure Puerto Rico takes this one too.

Oh yeah, “Good Luck” Emanuel, because Margacheato looks like he’s gonna kick your face in. =D Look for Margacheato’s Body Shot K.O. of Emanuel in the late rounds. I bet the drug stores across the Philippines are gonna run out of (TEAR) tissues come Nov. 13th. I can’t wait.
