Pacquiao/Margarito Undercard: Jesus Soto-Karass Vs. Mike Jones

Jesus Soto-Karass vs. Mike Jones

Let’s hope this is better than the previous fight.

R1
Impressive round for Jones. He hit a combination at the end of the round that was so quick that Soto-Karass was hit and off-balanced and leaning forward while Jones was already out of there. He landed his jab well too.

R2
Amazing second round. Jones backed up Soto-Karass to the ropes and threw about 75 punches, landing with some big shots. He hit some amazing shots, though was a bit sloppy as well. The only reason it wasn’t stopped was because Soto-Karass was able to get some punches out. But Jones punched himself out and had to catch his breath. With a bloody eye, Soto-Karass came forward and ended the round as the aggressor.

R3
Soto-Karass had the upper-hand most of the round as Jones was tired. He has cuts over both eyes, but landed some really nice shots. He definitely won the round.

(There’s beef that Pacquiao’s hand wraps aren’t legal and that Margarito may have taken an ephedrine based substance. Team Pacquiao wants him to take a drug test before the fight, but they aren’t going to do so until after the fight. Team Pacquiao wants to go to Texas because the athletic commission is lackadaisical, but it may bite them in the butt.)

R4
Another strong round by Soto-Karass. Jones just looks like a completely different fighter in these last two rounds. He’s tired and doesn’t have as much on his punches. Soto-Karass is just walking him down now, but the cuts may end up stopping him. They’re two ugly cuts.

R5
Soto-Karass has taken over this fight. He’s digging in side and absolutely unafraid of Jones’ power.

R6
The entire tempo of this fight is now Soto-Karass’ tempo. It looks like he’s taken some of the will of Jones. He’s going to need to increase his work rate and get Soto-Karass to stop walking forward.

R7
Better round for Jones, but he’s still moving backwards, so his shots don’t have a lot on them. Closer round, but Soto-Karass still had him in the corner and up against the ropes near the end of the round.

R8
Good round for Jones. He may have it in him to come back in this fight. He had more pep in his step, but I’m not sure he has a lot left on his punches.

R9
Jones is banging Soto-Karass with a straight right and landing accurately. But he’s also taking shots as well. Jones’ defense is much better, but when they land, Soto-Karass lands the harder punches. He’s also opening up the cuts more, though Jones is bleeding from a cut too. Very good round for both guys. It will be an interesting decision if it goes all ten rounds.

R10
I think Soto-Karass may have won this fight. He backed Jones up after it was time to fight even if Jones looks like he may have landed more shots. How the judges scored the 10th may be how the fight is decided.

Winner: Mike Jones by way of majority decision

  1. u guys ready 4 the ass whipping of Emanuel’s life???? take a good look at Emanuel because this is the last time you’ll see him look unbruised before these nasty next few moments =D Judgement day lets hope Poochiao doesn’t die in the ring

  2. All I can say is Margocheato is not my boy, Cotto is though. WOW!!! when was the last time a 144 pound fighter beat a 165 pound fighter in the way that we saw tonight??? Now do you believe me when I say Poochiao is on Roids???

No one will beat Emanuel as long as he does not have to submit himself to random blood testing. I picked Margocheato because logic says it is impossible for Margocheato to lose having all of the huge advantages. Now it has become more clear why Clottey did what he did and why Margocheato lost the way he did.

It’s because of the steroids that make Poochiao an abnormally great boxer who can obviously now take power punches from 154 pounders to 165 pounders. Lets see 180 pounders then everybody will finally start to question it all.

  3. I know Cotto’s your dude, but you were pro Margarito here.

It was definitely odd seeing someone so small take all those shots and walk through them.

  4. Your right, something was not real in that fight. It is way to hard to affect a tall fighter with that type of hight and weight advantages. It just doesn’t happen. Margo looks like a 180 pounder hit him. Unreal
