Is An Anderson Silva Vs. Chael Sonnen Rematch Coming In The Winter?
The LA Times’ Lance Pugmire posted an interesting news bit on his Twitter account just a short while ago.
According to Pugmire:
UFC will stage Anderson Silva-Chael Sonnen rematch on New Year’s Eve or Super Bowl card, depending on Silva’s hurt ribs.
We’ve always said that this made the most sense when it came to a money making fight for Silva, but with this information, maybe Silva’s ribs aren’t in as bad of shape as was earlier reported.
This fight on either show does tremendous business.
Update:
According to Dave Meltzer, Dana White confirmed this information.
I know I’m a broken record here but this just doesn’t interest me.
If Chael brings it again, I’m guessing 1.05 million buys.
I hope they load this card up again since of may be the end of the year fight. This and Kos-GSP fight I the dame card could do UFC 100 numbers.
And apologies for the horrid English; typing on an Iphone.
We’ll have to see how good of a job the antagonists do. GSP can do 600k fighting a tree because he’s that huge now. Maybe even more. That being said, it’s the main events that will draw and I think they know that. I would imagine they’ll both have strong semi-mains, but recently, they’ve been loading the cards because they just really have a ton of good guys.
Good luck to GSP taking down a tree. But a Silva/Sonnen GSP/Kos card could be their second biggest event ever.
It could, but they’re not putting them together. They’d rather do two separate 1 million dollar buy rates.
