Bobby Lashley Signs With Strikeforce
According to a press release I just received from Strikeforce, Bobby Lashley is going to make his Strikeforce debut on January 30, 2010 in Sunrise, Florida. It’s on the same card that Hershel Walker will make his MMA debut.
It won’t be on CBS and instead on Showtime. The press release states that this is a multi-year deal, but no word on whether or not he’s going to be able to continue his wrestling career with TNA or who he will be fighting.
I’ll update this story as I find out more information.
Update
According to Dave Meltzer from The Wrestling Observer (might need to have a subscription to read his post), the contract is non-exclusive and he can continue his wrestling career with TNA.
It blows my mind that he wrestled at 177 pounds in NAIA.
It’s not really all that mind blowing considering most guys wrestle at the lowest weight that they can make, just like in MMA. And then add the “medicine” to the mix.
I wonder how long before they throw him in with Fedor in an effort to bump ratings.
Even still, the thought of Lashley weighing 177 is pretty bizarre to me; the guy is massive. Its just hard to imagine someone with that size wrestling so small.
I believe that is even smaller than what Couture competed at.
If Fedor has two more fights, could Lashley even possibly be ready? There’s no way right?
I think the Lashley move could be for when Fedor leaves. If they groom him correctly, he could be a decent star, but the lack of charisma is going to hurt him.
Oh totally JP. I didn’t mean to say that Lashley being 80 pounds heavier today wasn’t weird, it was mostly to say that at that time, 177 was the smallest he could get to even though he was probably a fair bit over 200 back then. Now he’s just immense.
What happens when Fedor wins their heavyweight belt, then his contract runs out? Does Strikeforce have the Title Holder clause like UFC does?
I want to see Lashley fight Rogers.
I don’t know about that. I’m sure I can ask.
