Tito Ortiz Says That Forrest Griffin Is His New Opponent For UFC 106

According to Tito Ortiz’s Twitter status, he’s now facing Forrest Griffin at UFC 106.

So the match has been set!!!! Forrest vs Ortiz 2 live Nov 21st Las Vegas PPV. Let the Punishment begin!!!!

Ortiz was supposed to fight Mark Coleman originally, but Coleman dropped out of the fight.

The new fight could propel UFC 106 to an even bigger buyrate. With Brock Lesnar and Shane Carwin on top, plus Ortiz’s first match back in over a year, it was expected to be a big show. But now, with Griffin on the card, it could do even better than expected.

This will be a rematch of their first fight which took place at UFC 59. It was the fight that truly made Forrest Griffin as he stood toe to toe with Ortiz, withstanding an early beating and losing a very close 3-round decision in what many people thought was the fight of the year in 2006. It was Ortiz’s first fight back with UFC in over a year, and was the precursor to what at the time was the biggest fight in UFC history when he beat Ken Shamrock.

There is an interesting story to be told with this new fight being that Griffin isn’t an up and coming fighter anymore. He’ll probably be the favorite this time against Ortiz. And with Ortiz now saying that he’s injury free, he’ll have a chance to prove that he can still go with a top competitor.
