WWE SummerSlam 2009 Live Play By Play
We have a half house here watching SummerSlam. Not quite the type of turn out that we’d get for a UFC PPV, but larger than usual. I think it has something to do with Super China Buffet Day~!
Acid Helm, djac13, Eddy Zucko, Young Randall, HJ, my two boys and I are in the building.
The show opened with DX hijinx.
1. Rey Mysterio vs. Dolph Ziggler
Really good opener. Ziggler is a keeper as long as he works guys like Rey. They went back and forth and Ziggler had a ton of near falls which saw the fans actually get behind him. Finally, Mysterio hit a hurricanrana from the top rope and finished him off.
Winner: Rey Mysterio

2. Jack Swagger vs. MVP
Really solid match for how short time it was given. Both guys were put over strong, and it was one of those where the first guy who hit his finisher first won. That was MVP. Swagger missed the Vader bomb, took the Yakuza kick, and MVP hit the Playmaker for the victory.
Winner: MVP

3. The Big Show and Chris Jericho vs. Cryme Tyme
Another very solid match. The match was really good when JTG and Jericho were in the ring together. JTG worked a really hot comeback and the Big Show threw the big right hand and he was pinned. I don’t think Cryme Tyme lost much by losing, but it should set up something decent when they do finally win the belts.
Winners: The Big Show and Chris Jericho

4. Kane vs. The Great Khali
Holy jeez. Khali had trouble even kicking out of pins. Runjin Singh came into the ring and Khali had to save him. Kane undercut him to set up a swinging DDT.

5. DX vs. Legacy
Very long match. The wrestling was good and Legacy looked good. The reason why it wasn’t a classic probably has more to do with the fact that it was an old school match where there were long heat spots rather than really hot moves. It was long and plodding at times, but still a good match. Shawn hit the sweet chin music on Cody to end the match.

6. William Regal vs. Christian
This is what happens when the DX entrance is 20 minutes long. Christian immediately hit the killswitch for the win before Regal could even get his robe off. And then he was beaten by Ezekiel and Kozlov.
Winner: Christian
7. John Cena vs. Randy Orton
Hmm. This match is a bit too close to how DX worked their match. The work was pretty good, but the match was just boring. Orton pushed the referee and was DQ’d, though Lilian said that Mr. McMahon restarted the match. She actually said Orton was the new champion, but she messed up. If Orton gets DQ’d again, he’ll lose his belt. He walked out and got counted out and it was restarted again. Orton then pinned him by rolling him up and putting his feet on the ropes and they restarted it again.
Cena put on the STFU and it looked like Orton might tap, but a fan came in and put a choke on the referee. Looked like it took them awhile to get him off the ref. They restarted the match again and Orton hit the RKO for the win. Cena looked like the biggest goof ever here.

8. Jeff Hardy vs. CM Punk
If this is Jeff’s last match for a while, he definitely gave it his all. The craziest spot was hitting the swanton on Punk from the tallest ladder alive, with Punk laying on the ECW announcer’s table.
Hardy took most of the match and showed a ton of fire. He’s going to be missed. Punk couldn’t believe that Hardy was able to get up after all the stunts they were doing. After Hardy hit the swanton on the outside, the paramedics came out and put Hardy on a stretcher. Punk went to the get the title and Hardy came back, but after a right hand, fell backwards and nearly died. Punk got the belt and won the match.
After it was over, Punk walked over Hardy and stood high with the belt raised in the air. The Undertaker’s gong sounded and the lights went out. When the lights came back, Taker was underneath Punk and chokeslammed him. Pretty creative ending.
