Press Conference Notes For Strikeforce: Carano vs. Cyborg Plus An Update On Nick Diaz
Strikeforce held a press conference earlier today to promote the Gina Carano vs. Cris Cyborg fight, but neither woman was on the call. They’d done their own press conference a few weeks ago in New York, but it was still interesting that they weren’t there.
Along with Scott Coker, Gegard Mousasi, Jay Hieron, and Babalu were on the call. There wasn’t anything too interesting said, though Coker was called out a few times to explain the situation regrading Nick Diaz and his drug test. The CSAC was sending out e-mails concerning the Diaz situation while the call was happening.
The gist of the situation is that Diaz is being replaced in the fight because he didn’t make his appointment for his drug test with the CSAC. Last week, he skipped their meeting and was given the chance to make it today, though it wasn’t certain that the results would be back by Saturday. Jesse Taylor from The Ultimate Fighter fame is his replacement against Jay Hieron.
Coker also said that he thought there would be 10,000-12,000 at the HP Pavilion on Saturday, which is on the average of their last cards. Though, Frank Shamrock vs. Cung Le did 15,000 according to Coker.
Gegard Mousasi mentioned wanting to fight at heavyweight as well as get into boxing and Coker said he thought that with his relationship with Strikeforce, they could help Mousasi there. Jay Hieron said in a best case scenario, he’d like 8 weeks notice on who he’s going to fight, but it wasn’t he first time he didn’t know who he was going to fight coming up on the last week.
They also mentioned that Gina Carano was going to be hosting some sort of hype show slash look back at some old fights on Sho2. However, in looking at my DVR, I can’t really tell what it is. It just lists old fights.
