UFC 100 – The Aftermath (Brock Lesnar Vs. Frank Mir)
Much like Brock Lesnar said there would be, all that’s left is the crying. UFC 100 is over and it’s time for you all to get FGB’s perspective on the card.
And away, we go.

Best Fight: Alan Belcher vs. Yoshihiro Akiyama
Worst Fight: Paulo Thiago vs. Jon Fitch
Belcher vs. Akiyama fight was a close fight with plenty of action and a great pace. In the end I think the right guy got the decision and both guys will be back to fight again. Fitch vs. Thiago was a bit slow paced and one sided. It didn’t help that it came after 3 highly anticipated fights and all the excitement that came with those fights. The fight itself wasn’t a total stinker, it just didn’t live up to the quality of the other televised fights. Maybe if Fitch would have trained his cardio a little better…..:)
Overall I thought the card delivered on par with the hype. We had some great technical battles, a brutal KO, and a great showing by Lesnar which may help to legitimatize him to some of the fan base. His post fight antics have created quite a stir, and I believe that’s exactly what he was hoping for. Love him or hate him, they’ll be tuning in to watch him in next appearance.

A good show from top to bottom. I thought the opener was probably the best fight on the card. In my opinion the right guy got the decision, although I could see arguments for it going either way. It was certainly far from the robbery Rogan deemed it to be.
Henderson now has good momentum built up, and has earned another crack at Anderson Silva. I have heard from several casual fans that they didn’t like seeing Dan take that last shot while Bisping was clearly already out. I can completely understand that. Personally I think that should have been a far bigger issue than Lesnar’s brief display of bravado which seems to have gotten people up in arms. I get the impression that a lot of the flak directed Brock’s way is a result of hurt feelings over the fact that a “fake” pro wrestler is the Heavyweight champion. But that’s an issue for another day. All Lesnar did was make himself an even bigger star.
The GSP match was dull just because he so thoroughly overwhelmed Alves that there was never any element of drama in it. His performance can’t be faulted. He was flawless once again. They now have the problem of finding him challengers at 170. He’s beaten all the top contenders so convincingly that there really is no need for rematches. And with all due respect to Kampmann and Swick, I would retire before taking a fight like that if I was St. Pierre.

Best Fight: Michael Bisping vs. Dan Henderson
Worst Fight: Paulo Thiago vs. Jon Fitch
Unlike the other guys (except D), I didn’t like Belcher vs. Akiyama as the best fight. I think it was because Belcher’s boxing was so terrible and he should’ve been able to knock out a one eyed fighter. Akiyama showed heart, but I’m not even sure he won the fight. His reaction at the end tells me, he wasn’t sure either. It was definitely a good fight, but not the best to me. And maybe Bisping/Hendo was the best to me because of the knockout and only because of the knockout. Because Bisping’s stand-up was terrible too. With Hendo lunging with a huge right hand and missing three out of every four times, he was set up for a left hook or a left leg kick. And all Bisping did was get out of dodge. He definitely deserved to be knocked out, though I am glad he isn’t badly hurt.
GSP vs. Alves was a rugged wrestling match that would’ve been fairly boring if it were not for GSP being as over as he is. I really want to see Alves and Fitch in a rematch now. Maybe the winner could get a rematch with GSP sometime soon. What more can be said about Brock Lesnar? Frank Mir sings it, Brock Lesnar brings it. Overall, it wasn’t the best card I’ve ever seen, but it definitely lived up to the hype.

Everybody is talking about not only Brock Lesnar’s pounding of Frank Mir, but the infamous post-fight antics, so is there really anything else I can add to that? The part of the show that held a special place in my heart was Henderson breaking the jaw of Michael Bisping. I have gone on record to say I have never liked Michael Bisping from day one and watching him get knocked into dreamland and near-death was one of the most satisfying moments during my tenure as an MMA spectator. The pop at the sports bar was louder than anything I’d heard, according to one even rivaling that of Pac’s destruction of Hatton. Irony that this is the second time that a cocky Brit has been annihilated on a major PPV. Fall back and stay across the pond jerkasses.
Overall, it wasnt the best MMA show top to bottom, but damn straight it was good and lived up the hype.
