WWE 2009 Judgment Day – The Aftermath

Overall, the FGB crew thought that Judgment Day was a pretty fun show. It wasn’t eventful save for Ric Flair’s surprise run in.

Our thoughts are below.

Best Match: Rey Mysterio vs. Chris Jericho
Worst Match: Can I vote that Miz segment? I hated it way more than any match.

The PPV lived up to my very high expectations. Punk vs. Umaga was awesome and a perfect start to a series of matches (which I hope is what it turns into), Swagger/Christian was weaker than their other matches but still good, Morrison/Shelton was spotty but enjoyable, Rey/Jericho was friggin great and one of my favourite WWE matches in a while, the two Raw matches were slow but not awful by any means and the main event was great and almost as good as the Rey match.

Best Match: Rey Mysterio vs. Chris Jericho
Worst Match: The Big Show vs. John Cena

That’s two very good PPV showings in a row for WWE. All the Smackdown brand stuff was excellent. I would like to see all the current Smackdown feuds continue on until at least the next PPV. I’m particularly interested in seeing where they are going with Jericho and Mysterio. Swagger/Christian was a little bit down from last months match, but still very good none the less. I think they made a mistake in putting the two Raw matches on in a row. They were both fine, but it really slowed down the pace of the show. The Miz segment was horrific, and excruciatingly long. That was the only thing on the show that I would classify as bad, but it was indeed very bad.

Best Match: Rey Mysterio vs. Chris Jericho
Worst Match: The Big Show vs. John Cena

I’m very tempted to call Randy Orton vs. Batista the worst match, but Orton worked really well, and the Ric Flair run in at the end saved it. Even though at times, the Big Show can be very useful, I just don’t enjoy watching him work with John Cena. If he’s going to be the big and bad guy around town, he has to beat an injured Cena. They can’t try to build Show and then cut his legs and then next month, pretend like he’s big and bad again.

I loved everything from Smackdown and ECW, and nothing from Raw. I have a feeling it’s going to continue to be that way for a few months. Chris Jericho is at another level right now. Rey Mysterio might be my favorite worker to watch right now. John Morrison and Jack Swagger are my two favorite young wrestlers to watch (with Tyson Kidd and Evan Bourne close behind), and as usual, Edge and Jeff Hardy gave us something fun to watch.

It was slightly uneventful, but the show was good with quality wrestling.
