Strikeforce Weigh-In Results For Shamrock Vs. Diaz
According to Dave Meltzer at F4WOnline/Wrestling Observer, Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos missed weight and her fight with Hitomi Akano is in jeopardy.
Cyborg came in at 152 for the 145 pound fight. The California State Athletic Commission ruled that she had to get down to 149.5 pounds or the fight would be off the card.
Here’s what Meltzer had to say about the situation:
Even if she does weigh in at under 149.5 pounds, she is being fined 20% of her purse, and she still has to work out a deal with Akano, which could include forfeiting a portion of her purse to Akano. Akano would have the contractual right to pull out of the fight and still get her show money because she made weight, unless Santos gets to 145.
Cyborg then made her weight, but Akano’s side wasn’t going to budge and didn’t want the fight to happen, feeling that she came in on weight, and Cyborg missed weight by such a large margin. According to Meltzer, the fight looked to be off, but as of the late evening, they were still trying to work out a deal.
